Berserk Gluttony - Review
Format: Light Novel
For a person who constantly reads this format, the story of Berseck Gluttony is not very attractive, since his intention is to look for something different as the basis of his premise. The configuration of this story is simple, with a series of mysteries that captures the attention of anyone.
As being typical, our protagonist is someone who begins with a reality that influences in a bad way in him, nevertheless, the learning that has been instilled in him by his father, in being persistent before everything and never giving up, adding also that the struggle with his own demons inside him, all this caused by his ability, which can hurt those he cherishes and esteems, however, he can not continue without being affected by the lives of those around him, so he strives for taking people to their barrier to protect them. Despite all his problems of insecurity, he is a sweet and kind-hearted boy, with the humble desire not to cause many problems, and that makes his final decision to protect others much greater than his insecurity. Even if you can not act like a great hero to save the world, you can protect others while you are close to them. Fate's motivations are always easily understandable to the reader, even when he struggles to understand them.
Fate is not surrounded in itself by such interesting characters in the first chapters, are often the same archetypes, however, does not mean that only follow the same predictable line to what configuration for Isekais.
To a large extent, it is a narrative based on the struggle against its own ability, as an incessant search to stop this, as well as knowing about its origin, the world will be built as we read each volume, it is a fairly agile reading and with a good rhythm in this. Although the reader may find it pointless (at least the first two volumes), the unnecessary pages where they are taken to explain a skill, which can be summarized in a simple paragraph, can be somewhat tedious, but I hope that you, the reader, Do not lose your motivation due to this mishap.
I have some problems with the novel, and they mostly relate to the way the story was written. I feel that where I read this translation they did it really well, so I think my problems stem from the original story. When it comes to fiction, the general rule is "show, do not tell". In Berseck Gluttony, I think that the author does well to show, but then tends to go back and tells us everything he has just shown us. They show us how battles, professions and commerce work, but then we receive detailed explanations of everything. It makes the narrative feel very repetitive, and it clogs what is already a slow tale of a story, although this occasionally slows down the rhythm of it. After three volumes, it seems that the story just begins, looking back, do not feel that really much has happened outside the formula that sets in the series. Having said that, I read every volume in a session, so they can not have been boring.
As for the style of the illustration, I suppose it is quite attractive, as well as quite vivid - the character designs are according to their personality, something that is valued. The only negative thing I find is that I wanted the illustrator to take the trouble to make a scene showing the world that surrounds our protagonist, not just a small piece of it.
Pear beyond that small problem of the author, Berseck Gluttony in general, is a fairly good story in its own way, to be honest I can not call it novel in its entirety, emphasizing the beginning, I would recommend it to any novice reader of this format, without a doubt a simple and fluent reading, with only small mishaps in this.
