"Accounts belonged to a person or were maintained from a person who is listed on the list of citizens of special categories and banned persons of the United States and which is subject to US trade and economic sanctions. In this regard, Facebook has a legal obligation to deactivate the accounts of this person, "- says the response of the social network to the request of RBC.

The United States imposed sanctions against Kadyrov on December 20. It's about getting the head of Chechnya into the "Magnitsky list". According to the US authorities, the administration of the Chechen leader is connected with "murders, torture and other large-scale violations of human rights". Sanctions suggest a ban on entering the US and freezing assets in the country.

Three days later, on December 23, the accounts of the leader of Chechnya in Facebook and Instagram were blocked.
