ومع نجاح كهذا قام الوليد بن طلال بعد 16 عامًا على إعادة هيكلتها لتتحول إلى شركة قابضة تعرف الآن باسم «شركة المملكة القابضة»، ليتحول بعدها إلى ملياردير. أهم الصفقات التي اشتهر بها الأمير الوليد، تلك الصفقة التي أسماها بصفقة العمر، والتي تمثلت في شراء أسهم في مجموعة «سيتي جروب» الأمريكية العالمية بقيمة 790 مليون دولار، وتقدر قيمتها اليوم بنحو 8.6 مليار دولار. تنشط شركة «المملكة القابضة» اليوم في قطاعات استثمارية كبيرة إذ استحوذت على فنادق عالمية شهيرة، مثل :

1 – «فور سيزونز». 2 – «فيرمونت». 3 – «موفنبيك». 4 – «فنادق جورج الخامس» في العاصمة الفرنسية باريس. 5 – «كوبلي بلازا» في بوسطن. 6 – «بلازا هوتل» في نيويورك. وواصل الأمير الوليد إنجازاته العالمية حيث تعاقد مع شركة «بن لادن» السعودية لإنشاء برج المملكة في جدة ليكون أطول مبنى في العالم، على ارتفاع كيلومتر وبتكلفة فاقت مليار دولار.

لم يكتفِ طموح الوليد بن طلال في الاستثمار في مجال البناء والعقار، إذ حوّل أنظاره صوب قطاع الإعلام، وذلك بتأسيسه «مجموعة روتانا» التي تتضمن مجموعة قنوات فضائية، بالإضافة إلى شركة للتسجيلات الموسيقية وطبع الشرائط والأسطوانات وتوزيعها، إضافة إلى قناة «الرسالة»، مع امتلاكه نصف أسهم شبكة قنوات «LBC» اللبنانية.

وانتقل الوليد إلى العالمية إذ بات يمتلك أسهمًا في عشرات الصحف حول العالم، 21 منها فقط في أستراليا، إضافة إلى ست في إنجلترا، من ضمنها صحف «تايمز»، و«ذا صنداي تايمز»، ناهيك عن امتلاكه أسهمًا في «ذا صن» الشهيرة، وثلاث صحف في الولايات المتحدة، آخرها صحيفة «وول ستريت جورنال».

كما امتدت استثمارات الوليد بن طلال إلى الشبكات التلفزيونية فامتلك حصة في شبكات «نيوز غروب»، وشبكة «فوكس» في الولايات المتحدة، وشبكة «بي سكاي بي» في إنجلترا وأوروبا، بالإضافة إلى شبكة «ستار»، أكبر الشبكات التلفزيونية، والتي تغطي بقنواتها الثلاثين كلًّا من: الصين، الهند، باكستان، فيتنام، سنغافورة وغيرها، جدير بالذكر أن الوليد يساهم كذلك في شركة تويتر بحصة قدرت بـ300 مليون دولار.
