#1 Architectural Interesting Facts
Ali and Nino is a Caucasian variation on a theme of Shakespearean Romeo and Juliet. As in the English drama, a couple of lovers meet with obstacles. Ali is a Muslim, the son of a desert and Nino is a Georgian princess, who believe herself to be European unlike her beloved one who is a real Asian. But it's not the only difficulty. Beside religion, family and customs there is also a civil war going on.
In 2007, Georgian artist Tamara Kwesitadze decides to introduce the story to broader audience.
She creates two 8 meters high steel sculptures representing lovers. They aren't just a typical sculptures, one of those we see everyday in our cities. Ali and Nino are located on the georgian boulevard in a Batumi resort. Each day, at 7 p.m. takes place an extraordinary show. The shapes get illuminated suddenly and then they start getting close to each other until they merge into the oneness and after that, permeate.
Although, the sculpture brought a lot of controversy, it's a wonderful metaphor of tough love and unity between countries we need more and more.
