Loft of a photographer in New YorksteemCreated with Sketch.

in #architecture7 years ago

Desai Chia Architecture designed this loft for a photographer who was looking for a quiet, pure work and living environment. The 465 m2 industrial space has been completely renovated to include a library / reception area, living and dining rooms, a kitchen, a photo studio, two bedrooms, two bathrooms and ample storage space.

Desai Chia has created an open flow throughout the house, enjoying long axial views into space and allowing light to filter. The walls act more like sculptural elements while letting light and air circulate around them. Some walls are arranged to provide privacy if necessary.

The client asked Desai Chia to design a home that would serve as a workspace and gallery for her photographs while providing spaces for entertaining with friends. A library / reception area immediately outside the entrance vestibule allows him to meet gallery owners and present his work. The reception area serves as a hinge to two distinct areas of the loft: the East zone passes directly into the "private" area with its photography studio and bedroom, while the south area houses the "public" area with its kitchen, dining room and living room. A new oak floor made of wide planks connects all these areas. Boards are also used on wall panels and cabinets, unifying the pieces in a warm texture.
