Hat House!

in #architecture7 years ago

A young family wanted to create an open living space in their traditional house in the city of Bremen, but the existing rooms were too small to accommodate both the kitchen and the living room. The solution ? Create an extension that pays tribute to the historic structure by fitting the angles of the roof between them.

And since the house is located at an angle, the new windows have been positioned to offer a direct view of the church just opposite. The upper gallery also allows the family to view the street while offering passers-by a new interpretation of the building - a dialogue between the inside and the outside, between the new and the old. The smooth transition from the original to the extension has become a point of reference for the entire neighborhood.
