in #architecture7 years ago

Did you ever thought that 800 years ago High Heels already in use? Yes thats right it is ! Ramapa Temple in Telangana State in South India does have this records and proof. This temple were very famous for its marvelous carvings.

The richness in intricate ornamentation, floral patterns in the dresses prevailed during the Kakatiya period were exquisitely exemplified.
Every visitor will be amazed with this fashionable 'High Heel/Soul' footwear (Look for the gap between the foot and the heel) worn by this 'Madanika' (celestial maid) sculpted 800+ years ago!

These near life size bracket figures were carved in monolithic black basalt stones with slender, amorous appearance but with minute intricate works and vary from Hoysala Madanikas in many aspects.
Temple is a marvelous example of Kakatiyan creative genius, with beautiful art, intricate carvings adorning the walls, pillars and ceilings. The roof (garbhalayam) of the temple is built with bricks, which are so light that they are able to float on water.

One may think the body proportions may not be perfect and expressions could have been better, but the admirable fine polishing makes them ignorable.

Thinking of going here one day to visit this wonderful architecture :))
