The Daily Art—"Ceci n'est pas une Pomme"

in #art6 years ago (edited)

I'm trying to get into a rhythm of doing at least one art piece a day and posting it here to share.

This art project is a simple image, but I was more focused on a process rather than the image. I've always been into drawing and have been pretty good at it, but now I'm learning to work in and create shape and form with acrylic paints. My canvas for this piece was just some sketch paper.

Titled, "Ceci n'est pas une Pomme" or "This is not an Apple"

The title was inspired by Rene Magritte and his work titled "This is not a Pipe" which has always been one of my favorites for its beauty and cleverness. The idea is that the image itself is a representation of an object and not that particular object.

He explained it best when he said, "The famous pipe. How people reproached me for it! And yet, could you stuff my pipe? No, it's just a representation, is it not? So if I had written on my picture 'This is a pipe', I'd have been lying!"

And it's so true! It is easy to label things based on what they appear to be, but really they might not actually be that at all.
Therein lie the treachery and the wit of the famous painter. I love it!

Here's where my apple ended as a modified digital painting...
