BEASTLY TALES

OCEANS AHOY!

Professor Pasternak, an Oceanographer was he,
His study discipline was of oceans and sea.
“The Pacific,” said he “is decidedly terrific!”
“The Atlantic” he added, “is not at all frantic.”
“I have a feeling, a very real notion,”
“That another large one is the Indian Ocean.”

“My notions are great, so here’s another with devotion.”
“The Mediterranean could be an Ocean!”
“But the Atlas does, indeed, say it’s a sea!”
“And so it is, from any perspective, wherever you be,”
“A great expanse of salt water billow and swell,”
“That inland water way, we know so well.”
“Of course, that is what “Mediterranean” does mean,”
"A sea, surrounded by land, supposedly clean,"
“An island sea enclosed by Africa, Asia and Europe,”
“If I thought otherwise, I would be a dope!”

“Another school of thought is that it’s part of the River Nile”
“Proponents of such a theory are considered to be vile!”
“But, nevertheless, some continue to mention,”
“That the Mediterranean is just a Nile River extension!”
“Running through Africa and Europe, due west.”
(“There are a few islands, a bit of a pest”)
“Until it reaches it’s mouth, without falter,”
“Between Morocco, and, of course, Gibraltar!”

Although an Oceanographer, Professor Pasternak was a land-lubber true.
He preferred Terra firma, to give him his due.
He was not an old Sea Dog, not by a long shot!
The billowing Sea made him feel rather hot.
In fact, he also got sweaty and green,
On the bounding main, he was seldom seen.
