BEASTLY TALES
THE NUCLEAR SOLUTION
In 1952 when times weren’t the best,
The United States of America did a nuclear test,
On an atoll in the Marshall Islands of the Pacific.
Enormously potent, the “bang” was terrific.
Nothing like this had been tried before,
But test it, they must, just to make sure.
A blast of five megatons (at least),
Would allow them to test out this beast,
Of a “thermo-nuclear device”,
That was decidedly very un-nice!
So with this start in the nuclear race,
Things went ahead at a most rapid pace.
What was needed was a portable bomb,
That could be dropped on enemy heads with aplomb.
Even though commonsense staunchly forbade,
An Intercontinental Ballistic Missile was made.
Without an Intercontinental Missile device,
Dropping bombs from aircraft was the only method concise,
To deliver their super bombs around the place,
As may be required in this super arms race.
In the 1950’s Britain conducted 12 Nuclear tests in Australia.
Declaring not even one to be a failure.
Have you noticed that such tests were rarely conducted at home?
Few were recorded in the Nuclear Tome.
The U.S.S.R, China, Britain and France,
Conducted even more detonations to advance.
And so it has gone on apace,
Israel, Pakistan, India all in the race.
Until we come to today.
Iran, North Korea trying to play.
And so there is the danger of wars,
Just to prevent countries from achieving nuclear scores.
What a superlative mess it has become,
Decidedly stupid, yes, very dumb!
Had the world remained with arrows and bows,
We’d be far better off, as everyone knows.
Mutually Assured Destruction was the theme.
Peace seemed unlikely, no longer a dream.
Perish together, that is the paradox,
That faced U.S and Soviet blocs.
Too bad that humanity hasn’t the solution,
To this awfully dangerous weaponry pollution!
Although a solution isn’t apparent immediately,
It would be nice to have progress even expediently.
Perhaps the solution not subtle but loud,
Could come from a President haughty and proud,
And with a hair-do like a mushroom shaped cloud!
But, then again, probably not,
Nowadays, things don’t seem to work a lot.
Dear @beastlybunter you're absolutely right in your analysis but I want to be a little more optimistic. I think that human beings still have margins of salvation. We Humans are able to create beauty and it is precisely on this target that we have to work. I follow you a few days and I appreciate what you write, as I appreciate other artists and not only on Steemit!
As Salgado used to say "art will save the world". (LOL)

I can see the sarcasm in many of your lines...very nice work...i think you succeeded to give us the message!!!...:)
Every good thing has a prize and Everything has its disadvantage.
Nice poem well written and delivered by one and only Beastlybanter.
I salute u
Had the world remained with arrows and bows,
We’d be far better off,
How time and season changes,
We are now on nuclear age!
"Perhaps the solution not subtle but loud,
Could come from a President haughty and proud,
And with a hair-do like a mushroom shaped cloud!"...this got me rolling! This President himself seems a human nuclear bomb ready to go off any moment. On a serious note, never has world peace and indeed human existence been as threatened as it is in our days, no thanks to the nuclear "EVILution". I do have a personal conviction that the world as we know it will come to an end and a new world will arise. Am I being apocalyptic? Well, time will tell.
"What a superlative mess is..." I believe a "t" was omitted here. Beautiful poem as always.
Glad you got a laugh out of it. Thanks for pointing out the "t".
Thank you again for good work :)
