THE RED HOT FORK

To a Chinese Restaurant Horace Bent went.
Towards a sizzling plate of prawns he was hell bent.
Yes, prawns with garlic, bubbling on a super hot plate.
He was so hungry, he could hardly wait!
Ordered he did from the waiter, Wun Hung Lo.
In a rude and brusk manner, abrupt, not slow.
“And make sure, on the garlic, not to skimp.”
“Make sure you hurry, you oriental imp!”

Wun Hung Lo took offence at Bent’s manner,
So, into the works, he thought he might throw a spanner.
In the kitchen he cooked ingredients in a steaming Wok,
Pouring the dish onto a cast iron plate, on a wood block.
This, he then super heated in a griller,
Liquid oil sizzling and spluttering, a real thriller.
And, because the customer had acted the dork,
He also placed on the iron plate a culinary fork.
Now that fork, being metal, turned somewhat red,
Then Wun Hung Lo, with his smoking platter, to the customer sped.
“Prease enjoy, with a rittle lice.”
Then he scampered back to the kitchen, in a trice!

The swinging doors closed, through the glass the waiter looked.
Gleefully, as the hot fork, his customers fingers then cooked.
What an anguished shake of his head,
Gasping at his fingers, now turning red!
