"Indian Orange" - 11"x14" oil on panel - Showing stages of the "work in progress"

This painting was painted mostly with a palette knife, but I did use brushes in certain places. It was painted on an Ampersand Gessobord, which is an archival panel made for artist. I like to paint on these panels because it's slick and doesn't have the texture like a canvas. The bright blue was thalo blue and the bright orange was cadmium orange. I used ivory black in the very dark areas of the painting. Photos of the stages of progress are below.

The first stage: I toned the panel with a thin coat of raw umber and thalo blue. I thinned the mixture with Gamblin Gamsol. Then, I roughly drew in the major figures.

Next Stage: I painted the first orange, which I wanted to be the focal point of the painting. I made sure I didn't have the other objects in the painting as light or bright as this orange.
