"The Basilica of St. Peter" Beautiful place
source
We all know the famous St. Peter's Basilica, but do we know it ?, sincerely I do not believe, since if creation and history is very interesting, that's why I'm going to dedicate this post to this beautiful architectural work.
History
The Basilica of St. Peter is located just above where the apostle Peter, considered the first pope in history, was crucified and cremated. The tomb of Saint Peter, is under the high altar.
High altar
It was founded by Constantine in 324 and rebuilt in the sixteenth century by Renaissance masters such as Bramante, Michelangelo and Bernini. In the place where the Basilica was built, it was a Roman circus and cemetery where Peter was martyred and killed, persecuted by the Romans. A small tomb was in the place and the first Christians began to visit it. It was then that Emperor Constantine decided to build a basilica in his honor.
In the mid-sixteenth century Pope Nicolas V commissioned the architect Bernardo Rossellino to rebuild the Basilica of San Pedro. Shortly after the project was abandoned. At the end of the sixteenth century Pope Sixtus IV began to build the Sistine Chapel at his side.

The construction of the current building (or the New Basilica) began in the hands of Pope Julius II in 1506 and was completed in 1615 under the papacy of Paul V. Donato Bramante was the first architect in chief. Many famous artists worked at the San Pedro Factory. Miguel Angel designed the dome and Bernini the great Plaza de San Pedro.

The ship measures 218 meters long. The dome of the Basilica of San Pedro is the largest in the world and measures 42 m in diameter and 138 m high. The interior has 45 altars. The main facade measures 114 meters wide and 47 meters high. It has an area of 21,477 square meters covered.
The Basilica of San Pedro has a capacity of 20,000 faithful. It measures about 190 meters long, the width of the three naves is 58 meters, the central nave is 45.50 meters high, to the top of the vault, the dome reaches 136 meters in height to the cross; the interior, characterized by grandiose mosaic decorations, constitutes the precious jeweler who holds some of the most famous works of art in the world, such as Bernini's Baldachin and Michelangelo's Pieta statue.
Wow beautiful photos! I hope to visit there in the near future.
