The elixir of life as brewed by a witch and her familiars

I started this drawing as a sketch last week and began to digitally ink it on Friday before my guests arrived. I had thought I'd finish it that day, but didn't want to rush.

I do need to learn to use video capture to show some video drawing, but until that gets checked off the list, the gif will have to suffice.

Here it is with some of the layers building it up.

I started a black and white drawing on the day my company was arriving as I knew it would be that 'zen' moment for me. And I was glad of it yesterday and this morning, as when I needed to get back into the swing of my schedule, it was the perfect segway piece for me.

I can't believe simply being unplugged for two days made such a difference.

In a way it was very refreshing, but I also saw that it was a bit like the forbidden elixir labeled 'drink me'. It can be tempting to 'Alice myself to Wonderfland'. And were I too drain that bottle down entirely, I'd have a hard time coming back online at all. Although, I know I'd miss Steemit, it can be tempting to be disconnected.

Sometimes I feel like I have to work at staying tethered to the earth.

As if I don't do tangible worldly things like sweep the floor, sit at my desk, wash some dishes, I might float away up into my own little world. Odd as it may sound, some of those 'worldly' things are being online, writing posts, social media et al.

It's funny to think of something almost surreal, like the digital world, as an earth-bound worldly thing.

However, when one uses it in some ways as a job, it is a good tether. A fine way to stay grounded in the modern world.

I have mentioned in the past that before discovering steemit I was very close to unplugging.

It would be an odd sort of world, I suppose, as I'd certainly be left out eventually. The world is only moving more and more into the digital realm and if one were to stay unplugged long enough, they might just feel themselves standing alone in a void of quiet...but I digress.

I've work to get back to and I still feel I need to catch up with many of you, so I shall.

Ohhh very lovely flow on this one, I really like it a lot that you circled the whole picture with her coffee brew :D.

I like how confident you are in your black and white illustration, Donna ^_^.

Thanks @scrawly I really do love them. They are my 'go to' for relaxation and to spur me on to finish other things :)

Your amazing black and white drawings @donnadavisart, this one is just floating over screen, great, just great one!

Thanks so much @jungwatercolor. I'm trying to decide if I want to do #inktober this year. I have to travel at the end of the month, so I'd have to draw ahead a bit, but don't want to take on a challenge that I can't finish.

Have you ever done #inktober?

I haven't, maybe I will give it a try. Thinking of carrying small notebook with me to work, so I will maybe give it a try :) Thanks for reminding me. It might be interesting experiment @donnadavisart :)

WE can spur each other on! :)

Funny, I've just been considering trying to take on the inktober challenge this year as well! We should all try to do it, and keep each other motivated.

YES!
I'm going to be travelling in October, so trying to decide if I can make a few ahead of time to stay on top of one every day posted, not sure yet.

Wow... beautiful drawing.

mmmm I dig it... I love the back pelt of the deer and the spirit line breath connecting them all... :)

Thanks @mountainjewel. I love deer in general and collect their imagery as well as antlers and bones, so they're pretty special to me. I love to slip them into my artwork now and again and it seemed the right time, with Autumn upon us. Not sure why I think of them more in Autumn, but I do :) and of course as Christmas, I have quite a few little miniature deer items I can't wait to take out. Being an artist I like to treat the holiday's like a canvas to paint with my little treasures :)

Wow incredible sketch and digital inking!!

Oh this is so beautiful! So striking! I've always loved deer, and now that little miss is enamored with them, I find myself even more drawn to them. He is such a lovely and graceful fellow! I love the flow of the steam from her cup of tea, too. And of course, all the textures. It's visually so stimulating and also has an aura of "zen" about it at the same time. 💖

Thank you. I feel odd not upvoting comments but now I can't seem to as I did one and my steem power went straight down, so comments back will have to suffice. :)

I do go to my 'zen' place when doing my black and white inking :)

when I saw your title, I started hearing Miles Davis "Bitches Brew" play in my head ;-)
Your art is phenomenal, as always!
I don't mind being a bit disconnected every now and again, and give myself the freedom to on or off line, whichever way I like it best at the moment :-)

I hear you about down time. It is funny, thought, that I just took a two day sojourn from Steemit and online to have my little campout here at Toad Hall and then I come back and in two days the fork happens!

I LOVE miles Davis and I can't believe I wasn't listening to that whilst drawing this! The next witch is getting that music to spur on my drawing :)

I am trying to decide if I want to do #inktober this year. If so I was considering doing my black and white style a different witch and her familiars for each of the 31 days.

I am going to be travelling in October so I'd have to plan carefully, but I might have to be away from my digital oils a bit anyway, so...decisions decisions.

I have to be careful as I can't let myself disconnect too long, as stated, I'd float away like a hot air balloon into the clouds of la la land pretending we don't live in a digital world connected by our common language in 1's and 0's

Another great artwork! It always takes me a while to understand it but I love it this way! Thank you for sharing!
