Grace Fournier be Da Bomb!

in #art7 years ago (edited)

Hi dearest Steemians, I am at an exciting opening on the drive featuring the work of my good friend Grace Fournier who paints in acrylics. She is a feminist like me, unafraid to confront people with their fears by showcasing a figurative style with an abstract edge. Provoking the public to question them on their apprehesion of nudity, Grace is a life model herself and has actually convinced me to use my voice as a life model to defend the ideal of nudism. Together, we are willing to explore the male female dynamic with nude performance art and video. This project in the works is coming along nicely and will be released on DTube by June. Show some love for this work in progress where feminism meets nudity in the comments please, any validation that you all want to push the envelope would be great!

She at times shows the darkness in humanity, the guilt and the shame don't make this female protagonist shallow in any way. Some brush strokes are deliberately provokative in that they "ruin" the crisp silhouettes that your mind paints in front of you. This encounter does not favour the male over the female gaze, it is a universal tale of tourment but also hope, as the women of Fournier keep their dignity. She brings an androginy to these figures which remind us of The Scream by Munch. This is where the intelligent color schemes come into play, to generate an emotionnal response in the viewer. Pain, reflexion, love, affection, these are the emotions these women dream of with their sublime body language.

One can't help but reminisce about the roaring 20s seeing these elongated bodies so pensive yet sensual; giving themselves entirely to the viewer. Don't get me wrong, the women, bearing an uncanny resemblance to each other do not give themselves easily. They deliver a part of their inner being like the poet, her soul to be captured by the ear where her poem falls. It is genuine, it is true, this act of pure expression which is selfless in nature. Many of these women are shielding themselves with their arms perhaps because being nude make them vulnerable to the viewer. They do so with utter sensuality. Fournier is giving us a taste of her own introspections which explains why the body language has to evoke some mystery. This to me is the expression of a strong female who understands the sacrifices a woman has to make in order for her voice to be heard. She could be a mother, a sister, a mistress, a lesbian, an artist and there is just no way you will remain indifferent.

Pretty

Wow! I have to say, that the first picture kept me standing with an open mouth for a while. The geometry of the pose is wonderful the picture is touching me with it's beautiful line guidance (hope it's the right word). That's a piece of art I'd actually would buy, if I had the money.

Thanks for sharing! Kindlybowing

It is always the right word when it comes from the heart.

So unique!

I absolutely love this post. So cool that you are working on this project in collaboration with Grace Fournier for eventual release on DTube. I absolutely think it is important to explore why, exactly, western society has such a problem with the naked human body. I 100% support this project.

I love the paintings! I totally agree with your commentary, and I think your knowledge of subject and artist gives so much authenticity to your words. It is rare that the art reviewer actually has first hand insight into the artist's mind. The first two compositions are so strong structurally with the architectural lines in the background and then the dripping forms of the next three take it in a completely different direction - and I love all of it!

I am so excited to see more of this!

Much love - Carl

I am at a loss for words for how grateful I am for your support. Feminism can mean a great deal of things to a vast amount of people. That being said, I hope that we can be flexible in that we can take our time figuring out what it means to us and nudism comes as a way to simplify things. To be instead of do...

What a beautiful testimony. As artists, it is a blessing when we can inspire each other and unite in the face of a society which has stopped caring a long time ago it seems. Our solidarity is all we have. Keep fighting the good fight my friend!

Sii, gracias, el arte es poder para transformar y hacer amigos por el mundo!

I love how these works just make me WONDER in the deepest way. As if I start by guessing the character and life of the woman on the painting, and end up discovering my own self. It is a very scary yet important experience. Thank you for sharing this! I am sending lots of love in your way!!
