Learning How To Paint
For the past few months, I have been messing around with photo-manipulation in Photoshop. I've spent a lot of my free time creating mashed up images of landscapes and architecture that I found from random photos around the internet. But using existing photos to create an image really limits the imagination. It made me want to learn how to actually paint, so I've decided to learn how to paint digitally. I've never painted traditionally before so the whole idea of painting is new to me.
Below are some of the pieces that I have done in the last month. My intention is to create an overall mood with the painting and not worry too much about details. They are very beginner level and I would heavily appreciate any feedback.
If anybody is familiar with drawing or painting and you have any advice for me, I would love to hear it. Thanks!
I'm no artist but I definitely am feeling the moodiness you've intended. I think the first is the strongest and the sharp realistic trees help. The next four look good but lack a subject for a point of interest. The last one has a focus but could use some interesting detail or a foreground subject on its left half. They'd make great backgrounds for a point and click adventure game!
As for subjects, maybe a silhouetted figure with some distinctive shape would work for the street scene. The harbor scene has a vague oriental feel so maybe a small junk in midground or a massive Chinese treasureship in the distance?
These are really cool. I agree with @pfunk in the way of adding something in the foreground. These do make up some rad backgrounds, a small addition would make the eye drawn to it and pop!! can't wait to see some more, upped and followed
