Close-up of A Dose of Art

I accompanied a friend to a hospital appointment and while I was waiting I got a bit hungry. Fortunately the hospital had a Costa cafe although this was a bit unexpected as I don’t associate this type of establishment with eating healthily.

What I bought at the Costa Cafe was uninspiring. I took a photo to show you :

I had a decaffeinated latte (as per usual) and a plant based ham and cheeze [sic] toasted sandwich. I think it was bit expensive at £3.90 for the latte, around 24 Steem, while the toastie was £4.19, about 25 Steem. This was the only vegetarian option available. Being plant based I was hoping for a lettuce leaf at least.

What was much more inspiring to me was the artwork on a wall nearby. There were two very vivid portraits that I could see from a distance. When I got closer I could see why the portraits looked like a graphic collage. They had been made with the lids of hundreds, perhaps thousands of vaccination vials.

Ignore the white rectangles : they’re light reflections.

In the two portraits above called A Dose of Art small vial lids make up the blocks of colour. The red colour is made up either Moderna or Astra Zeneca lids. The large blue colours are Moderna lids. The Small orange colours are the paediatric Pfizer lids while the small purple or grey colours are also Pfizer lids.

The artist who made this work is a well known Welsh personality called Nathan Wyburn. In his own words, he describes himself as :

A pop culture portrait artist using unconventional weird everyday materials within my work.

I got the quote above from a You Tube video I watched about him afterwards :
