The call of the Long Night, The Awakening

in #art7 years ago (edited)

Hello, people of steemit. Welcome to a new world of metaphysical experiences and creatures. This is my first attempt to create a fraction of a story i have been working on in my mind for some time. This story is based on the oWoD (old World of Darkness) but you don't have to be a player of the game or a fun to understand what is going on. Basically, Vampire: The Masquerade is my favorite universe with such content. I usually write in my mother language (Greek) but i'll try my best to make you take the trip to the lands of my imagination. And here we go...

Some nights are warm and others cold. Can we recognize them and separate them? Can we call our angels in time of darkness or our demons when light hurt our eyes? Can we actually begin to wonder in the nature of light and darkness? Is darkness wrong and useless? Is light the only way? Can we actually find ourselves in an ever ending euphoria? What is good and what is evil?

Sitting in his department he was wondering the city’s night lights. Thinking about answers that would be given in the above questions. He couldn’t resist to think about his favorite student. Socrates was once a mortal in the medieval era. His real name wasn’t Socrates but it doesn’t matter what he was before the long night. A powerful vampire approached him and gave him the eternal youth without give him a choice. You see sometimes, when the elder is truly mighty, choices are irrelevant.

Mighty vampires doesn’t actually realize the world as interconnection of behavioral systems. They just hunt for more. More power. They feel that they are the main ingredients to the success of God’s plan. To bring either dystopia or utopia to the world.

So, he was changed. Socrates “embraced”, as they use to say, by Malkav. Malkav was the first of his kind. The father of a clan itself. He was the madness and the madness flew through him. A Malkavian was a vampire of the clan of Malkav. This ancient vampire of mighty power found Socrates in a terrible condition in Constantinople. He was sentenced to death. He was an atheist at that point of his mortal life. Preaching and writhing about atheism and scientific methods. Philosophy and the future of mankind. No need for another reason to be hunted down. They sentenced him to the guillotine.

Malkav sensed the intellect that Socrates was bearing. Without giving him a choice he drunk all his blood and then gave Socrates two drops of blood into his mouth. Socrates came back to another form of life. What he experienced that night is kind of irrelevant in this point in his mind. He remembers though, some of the last words Malkav said to him: “We are an organism living separated from itself. Darkness exist between us. That’s what light solves, you know? Creates links of wonderful information”.

Socrates were traveling most of the time. Although for the modern times he choose Athens for his habitat city. He stayed there from the 90’s.  Socrates, all this years, never had a student so brilliant and wonderful as George. You see, being immortal makes you searching for a companion in the internal night. When you are ancient or a true elder you can’t trust someone else than yourself. Everybody is here for your blood. Given him the powers you bear and the knowledge you have.

Queerly, one night after the millennium -he can’t remember when exactly- he met George. And George was alone and heart broken. George lost his loved ones after his embrace. He couldn’t bear to see them. He was just from another kind now. So, Socrates taught him everything he knew. Socrates could see George’s clan and it was Malkavian. But he couldn’t see where the blood came from. Who was his sire? How old George’s blood is? This are questions that even Socrates couldn’t answer.

Socrates didn’t feel fear that he couldn’t see that. When he asked George who was his sire or what is the generation of blood he bears, George answered: “I don’t remember the answer to what you are asking. I only remember some of his words: “This world, this crying world of decay and out of fear will fall to the dark forces that already are taking over the heavenly realms”. Socrates was a bit sad that he couldn’t foresee his apprentice’s future or his past. Then some days after this conversation, George disappeared.

In the beginning no one could give answers to Socrates and he knew so. After he met George, Socrates regained hope. He hoped that, apart from a great companion for the eternal night, George in the end could become his teacher. A vision, every teacher –true one- has for his students. As he taught George the dark gifts and powers, he hoped, he could become his mentor. George didn’t had anyone. Not even his sire. But Socrates was there for him. After some nights that they walked together in the streets of Athens, wondering the buildings and the proofs of an ancient civilization they discovered one truth.

The truth was that everything can be measured by one’s mind. By his powers and his view. And measuring reality from a point of view that actually needs power, power will be the result of the measurement. Everything that is, is under the spectrum of one’s perception and could not be something different than the spectrum’s colors. This visualization of reality’s objectivity, came to George before the night he disappeared.

Socrates was alone, once again and felt betrayed. Then, he stood back and asked himself: “Did you ever, taught him how to control his madness?” The answer was “no”. He didn’t. He never wasted time on that. He taught George every trick in the book. The dark gifts he knew and the powers he had was all trusted to George. But he never took time to teach him how to control his mind. George was a young vampire with deadly weapons in his hand. Socrates, then, started to feel… terror.

George was out there looking for the ultimate answers with a spectrum of madness and deadly weapons in his hands. But for years nothing happened. Nineteen years has passed from the night he disappeared. Socrates stayed in Athens all this period. Waiting for him to come again. Until this day nothing. Socrates was kind of rusty the last thirty years of his undead life. He didn’t proceed to know the world or help it through. He was interested in finding a companion. Which he found and lost.

Now sitting in his department he is thinking about an answer to the eternal questions. Is there darkness enough to kill the light or light enough to kill darkness? Is there a spectrum that has all the colors? Can we see without our personas? Which was his persona?

Then, he was stroked by a voice in his head. A voice that reminded him the voice of his sire: “Search deeper. You have a part in this. Find it”.

He grabbed his coat and went out. He started remembering the time he was a child. His name and his parents. Constantinople by night and day. He remembered what his sire told him the night of his embrace: “You are a part from a timeline, which I choose, to follow another path. And so, you will be part of a greater plan. Is this plan mine? Is this plan something bigger? Is this pure God’s will?”

Before he knew, his mind stepped into a new state of existence. He was searching again. He remembered. He wanted now to find the truth. He wanted to find the answers. He decided to go away from Athens for the time. To search for answers. What was this “You are a part from a timeline, which I choose, to follow another path”? Malkav changed the game? Is he supposed to do something? And the voice inside his head? Like back then. When he couldn’t fight it. That voice reminded him of Malkav. Is Malkav the madness itself? He should search deeper into the long night.

He left for Constantinople…

Thanks for your time people!!! Hope you liked it!!!
