A Love of Stoneware: Tall Teapot

"Clay can be dirt in the wrong hands,
but clay can be art in the right hands." - Lupita Nyong'o

I'm infatuated with the final coating a ceramic piece dons. It can range from matte to satin to metallic to ultra-shiny; see how the color breaks in a variegated way?

It looks like algae blooming in a dark, deep pond.
The rim of the pitcher is a lovely shade of amber that complements the deep firebrick handle and lid.

Ah, but what is this? This is that same final coating before it was 'fired' in the kiln. At temperatures above 2000 degrees Fahrenheit, the chalky paint I've applied in a streaky and layered manner–called 'glaze'–will melt into a much more colorful glass deposit.

And of course, I must leave here the ceramic in its raw form. See how concentric circles align on its body. These are the marks of a wheel-thrower.
