Various kinds of hydroponic plant media that we can use is charcoal husk. Chaff charcoal is the most popular growing medium widely used by hydroponic growers. Chaff charcoal can not only be used for hydroponics techniques, but also can be used for cultivation plants in pots.
Charcoal husk comes from the pulp of burned to black husk. Chaff charcoal can absorb water well and also environmentally friendly. Besides this charcoal husk pH is neutral, and also charcoal husk is used because it is sterile and free from bacteria. What's more interesting is that chaff charcoal is quite durable and not easy to break down so it can be used again.
Benefits Rice husk charcoal is usually widely perceived by farmers who cultivate ornamental plants or producers of fruit crops seedlings in general. Chaff charcoal consists of a very lightweight material with a porous micro-structure and on average has a density of about 0.150g cm-3. The process of carbonization or incomplete combustion has a positive impact as a planting medium to improve the exchange of air in the soil for the better.

The use of charcoal husk as a mixture of planting medium or media of seedlings is known to increase root growth much better, when compared with planting medium without the addition of charcoal husk as a mixture of it.
Excess charcoal husk is the change of chemical composition of raw husks through incomplete combustion process resulting in increased mineral content of Si, Ca, Mg and also other micro elements such as Fe, Al, Cu, Zn, Na and so on.
