Introduction and tattoo history

in #art7 years ago (edited)

Well, since this is my first post on Steemit, I suppose I should introduce myself. My name is Jaboc (pronounced Jay-bock). I am a tattooer who resides in the beautiful and rainy Portland, Oregon. I've been making tattoos close to a decade now. I tattoo full time and am very lucky to be able to travel a lot because of my career. Like most of you, I am also really interested in blockchain and excited to see what happens in the future because of it. I have also been a vegan for 16 years and am very interested in mindsets and technologies that help reduce our carbon footprint... But please don't let that turn you off to my content if you don't feel the same way, as I will probably not post much on that subject.

My goals for this blog will most likely be tattoo related, with heavy emphasis on tattoo history. The history is something a lot of modern day tattooers and enthusiasts don't care to learn about surprisingly. I would like to help bring more information on some of the great tattooers and designs that have been created throughout the last 100 years or so. I will also show my tattoos off and explain any inspiration I had in creating the tattoo.

I will most likely post about other things, but for now that's all I got.

I will leave you with a recent tattoo I made while on my last road trip.

I made this tattoo at one of my favorite tattoo shops in Las Vegas, Nevada... Downtown Tattoo. I definitely recommend checking this place out even if you don't want to get a tattoo. The most beautiful and real tattoo shop, with literally thousands of hand painted tattoo designs on the walls.

The tattoo is heavily referenced from ledgendary American tattoo artist Cap Coleman, who died in 1973. I will go more in depth on him in a later post.

The above image is from the book, The Collection, published by Modern Tattoo Ltd.. The bottom left skull is what I tattooed, and is called an acetate. Acetates are basically a piece of plastic with the image carved into it and was used to stencil a design on prior to tattooing it. I will most likely talk more about that process down the road as well.

In the future I will go more in depth in my posts, but since this is an introduction I think I will leave it short and sweet today. Thanks for looking, and I hope to bring more fun and interesting things into this space.
