The Art of Blockchain: An Introduction to ArtPro Platform

in #art6 years ago

Discover more about ArtPro, a tokenized project planning to democratize the art world and bring collectible artworks to the masses.

Welcome to ArtPro, a platform that promises to be many things for many people. Upon its launch, ArtPro will variously be:

● A go-to marketplace for private dealers and contemporary artists

● A system to connect artists and buyers that eliminates intermediaries

● A modern system for valuing, authenticating, and acquiring art

● A solution to the provenance problem that combines blockchain technology with the wisdom of real-world experts

● A means for newcomers to invest in collectible art with minimal entry requirements

● The platform that drags the old-fashioned art world into the 21st century

There’s more — lots more — but that’s enough to be going on with. In the run-up to our token sale, we’ll be delving into each element of the project in detail and explaining the reasoning behind each component.

Essentially, ArtPro aims to become the go-to marketplace for buying and selling art. Whether that’s to hang in your front room or to keep in a secure vault is your prerogative. If it’s the latter, we’ll provide you with the tools to do so, including a turnkey service through one of our fully insured custodial partners. If it’s the former, ditto: we’ll make the process as seamless as possible, including tools such as augmented reality (AR) to help you visualize artworks before you buy them, so you can find the perfect piece for your home.

And, underpinning it all, will be a dual token model that utilizes the attributes for which blockchain technology is renowned: ERC721 non-fungible tokens (NFTs) to represent and track every artwork listed on the ArtPro platform, and as the ArtPro Token APT, an ERC20 token that serves as the native currency and incentivization mechanism within the ArtPro ecosystem, which includes a desktop platform, mobile dApp, and eventually various third party integrations.

Why blockchain?

We’re big believers in blockchain technology and in the ability for tokens to remove intermediaries and create more efficient global marketplaces. We’re not oblivious to the criticisms leveled against blockchain-based projects however, which is why we’ve given careful consideration to both the provenance-based solution we’re developing and to the role of our native APT token.

We’ll be examining both elements in greater detail in the near future. For now, we’d like to acknowledge that for all the benefits blockchain can bestow, including the near-immutability of records stored upon it, there needs to be a means of accounting for the veracity of the information entered. Otherwise, the “garbage in, garbage out” mantra will apply. That’s why we’ve deliberately not latched onto blockchain technology as a panacea for curing everything that’s wrong with the art world. Instead, we’re leveraging it as part of a multi-faceted system that incorporates various checkpoints to overcome the problems with provenance in the art world.

You’ve probably read stories about issues to do with art forgeries, new examples of which seem to appear every week. We’ll take a closer look at ArtPro’s solution to the provenance problem in one of our next blog posts, or if you’re too impatient to wait, check out our whitepaper, which explores the topic in some detail.

When it comes to modeling the ArtPro token, we’ve applied as much consideration to its design as we have to our proprietary provenance solution. We’re well aware that “token as currency” is a simplistic solution that is susceptible to high velocity and a use case that is too narrow to gain any sort of sustainable long-term adoption. That’s why we’ve incorporated a range of functions that will reduce token velocity and increase utility, including staking and burning mechanisms. Once again, the ArtPro whitepaper outlines these mechanisms in more detail.

Who is behind ArtPro?

The ArtPro team is led by Oliver Hams and Ashleigh Ulysses, two experienced heads from the world of fine art, with a track record for managing collectible art worth millions of dollars on behalf of clients. They’re complemented by a diverse team of experts from the worlds of art and blockchain, as well as over 50 artists and galleries whose works will feature on the ArtPro platform.

One of our primary goals in launching ArtPro is to democratize the world of art. That means making it possible for anyone, regardless of their location, background, connections, and means, to list and sell their work. It means empowering buyers anywhere in the world to purchase art, with the option to take physical custody of it or entrust it to one of ArtPro’s fully insured vaults. And it means providing a practical and affordable system for eliminating the fakes that have blighted the industry for too long.

As we gear up to launch the ArtPro platform, led by a pre- and public token sale to commence in October, we’re aware of the challenges we face, but also of the opportunities. While difficult market conditions this year have raised the bar for fundraising, we’re confident of developing a global community, introducing them to the many benefits the ArtPro platform has to offer, and completing a successful token sale. Over the last eight months, we’ve agonized over every last detail of the project, refining our token model, our provenance solution, platform architecture and much more.

What happens next?

Now it’s time to share our vision with the art-loving world, draw upon their support, and seek their input on ways in which we can make ArtPro even better. We know we’ve got a lot of work ahead of us. But we also know we have the team and business plan in place to complete our token sale and to lay the groundwork for what lies ahead. The next three months will shape ArtPro’s future for the next three years and beyond, as we seek to become the web’s preeminent art marketplace.

ArtPro will be the hub at the center of it all, but it’s the community of artists, galleries, buyers, collectors, and art-lovers who will make it all possible. Their involvement will provide an opportunity to stake a claim in the future of online art, and to help create an ecosystem that works to the advantage of everyone. This is only the beginning.

The best has yet to come.
