Having anxiety drawing in public (i'll put the translation later)
i know i've been very inactive these days D: but this week i come with a talk, about having problems drawing in public or in front of some people.
A few days ago, i went to my english class, i arrived before the others so, i started to draw this:
menwhile waiting for the teacher.
at the half of the drawing, two girls from my class arrived, they didn't even pay me attention (i´m not exactly the popular guy in my class) but i felt really nervious. my hand was shaking. For a moment they were laughing about something and, even know that they were talking about some random topic, i felt like if they were laughing at me.
But during i was drawing i tried to focus more on what i was doing and not about what the others were doing. and i even tried to imagine a background story for the character. His name would be Melo, and he is a kind of human and half eagle that got his abillities from the gods. at the end, i had a lot of fun, and then the teacher arrived and i had to stop.
When i went out of the class, i started thinking about this anxiety struggles that i ever had drawing in public. And i see that a lot of people struggle with it too.
Then, Why does this happen to us?
i have some reasons of this, maybe if you find your own reasons it would help you to deal with the problem.
- Feeling naked.
Not feeling literally naked, but sometimes, even if the drawing isn't very important, you can feel that if other people see what are you drawing and how do you draw, thay in someway could more about you, what you like, and it's normal to feel insecure of what you like or what you do, but it shouldn't be like that.
- Insecurity about "your skills".
People expect that artists and illustrators are like Da Vinci drawing, and somnetimes it doesn't have to be thath way. But some of us expect mean comments from other people if we don't do it right, and it distract us from what are we actually doing and sometimes, doin't get the fianl result that we wanted. And that bother us and it makes like a cycle of bad drawings and anxiety.
- "you have to proove that you are skilled"
This is related to the second point, because you're insecurity makes you thnik that you have to be skilled to draw in front of other people and prrove something, but it could have the opposite result.
This is a conseils that i give to myself to: You don't have to prrove anything. you draw because You like it, not for other. you first need to draw for yourself and then you could draw for others (comissions, etc.) if you only draw to impress people but not to make you happy, it doesn't have sense.
We can be scared about drawing in public, but we HAVE to fight that feeling, because we all deserve to draw wherever we want to.
that was all for my part, if you want to add something please feel fre to do it in the comments.
See you later!!!
