RTW: Spring/Summer 2018.
Although this article might appear to be out of the time-efficient frame, summer is still going on, and so are the seasonal sales. Spring/Summer seasons are usually playful and lighthearted in different ways, sometimes utterly romantic, sometimes dadaistic and good-humoured... let's see what the worlds greatest fashion houses presented for this year.
House of Louis Vuitton showed us how well one can pair highly elaborate rococo coats with sneakers and gym shorts (made out of silky fabric). Currently, among most popular of them is Gucci with creative director Alessandro Michele noted for the air of surrealism around his work, glam, vintage, and humour - he placed company’s logo all over the collection, sometimes spelling it as ''Guccy''. Balenciaga joined 2 garments into one, attached trench coat to denim jacket - does that mean that the luxury company plays ‘’buy one and get one’’ marketing tricks? Demna Gvasalia, creative director said: “They are joined, so you can wear them one way or the other as you will.”
Perhaps Versace was only one too serious. The show supposed to be an homage to great Gianni Versace, but in spite of the attractive garments, somehow it seemed to lack the originality, and the accompanying music with the frivolous narrative spoiled the overall impression.
There were a lot of metallics, glitters, sequins and 1980’s glam with power suit and stilettos. Color palette ranged from beautiful eye-resting almost-there pastel shades of lavender, peach, green and blue seen on suits and sneakers, and really bold vivid hues combined with even brighter ones.
From now on tweeds and tartans aren’t just for the winter, both in bright and dull colours they were all over the runways. There was also a lot of transparent materials and plastics, print on print, pattern on pattern, nets on nets… and textures combined with other textures.
Accessories came in form of bum bags and this really cool trend of multiple bags that are worn simultaneously, for those who always need a bag more (art students indeed). At Balenciaga they also included ugly but comfortable Crocs shoe, knowing that these 'street style' generations are not fans of uncomfortable stiletto heel and bag that has a mini skirt over it.
SS 2018 says that it is okay to mix and match anything with everything, as long as you are having a lot of fun making your unique expression.
