Rock & Mineral Watercolor Studies~

in #art7 years ago (edited)

Someone help -- I took a day trip to the Natural History Museum (which is awesome by the way, if you're ever in DC make it a mandatory visit), and I took reference photos of every rock in that museum and that's all I've been painting the last week.

I'm actually having a lot of fun with it, and if anyone is just learning watercolors or really any type of paint, it's great practice with whatever media you're working with. The colors and patterns are just pretty and fun and you can't go wrong with whatever you end up with because it's natural, and odds are there's a rock that looks just like it somewhere on this larger rock we call Earth. <(^-^)>

For these little studies I started with the wash of the lightest colors, let it dry completely, went over with darker colors and thicker paint, and then went over that with my micron and a cheap white gel pen (because you really don't need anything more expensive than that). It was a lot of playing, but it's giving me a better grasp on how to approach future projects.

Anyways I have plenty more to keep me occupied for weeks probably, but feel free to send me images you wanna see in paint, I would love to take on some requests! Hope you like! :)
