''Julie'' - original watercolor painting by @mayasky

in #art7 years ago

Hello Everyone!

Today I wanted to share a watercolor that I made a couple of years ago of one of my best friends Julie.

''Julie''.

The past few months I have been diving deep int a new world of art, printmaking, but lately I have been wanting to get back to my watercolors as well. It's so typical of me that once I head down one direction I just go a 100% in and forget that other mediums are also available, hehe!

Well, today I went to collect the two watercolor paintings I am shipping to London from the framers and I was reminded what a great medium it is and how much fun I have working with it.

When I came home I spent some time on my computer looking through old work and found this painting I made of my friend a while back. I painted it after I was gifted these amazing Escada watercolor brushes from my old teacher, which by the way are still my favorite watercolor paintingbrushes to this day!

''Julie'', watercolor on Arches paper, size 20 x 30 cm.

With this painting I wanted to work with the complementary colors green and red which is really unusual for me as I almost exclusively work with the complementary palette blue vs orange. I don't know why but I'm not a big fan of green in paintings. Then it has to be a landscape and even then I prefer the once where the greens are very soft, almost blueish..

I was thinking of working a bit more with the green/red palette again though, as I've seen a lot of great examples of how to make t work beautifully lately!

What are your favorite color combinations? :)

Hope you are all having a wonderful day!
