Walks around Saint-Petersburg#4.

in #art7 years ago

Literally a few minutes walk from the monument to Catherine the Great in the park on the bank of the river Fontanka near Anichkov Bridge, located one of the imperial palaces - Anichkov Palace, which began to build by the architect Mikhail Zemtsov in 1841 and was build in 1843 already in the Baroque style, designed by the architect Bartolomeo Francesco Rastrelli.

At that time, the Fontanka River was the outskirts of the city and the palace was to decorate the entrance to St. Petersburg along Nevsky Prospekt. For a long time the palace was the residence of the royal family. After the revolution in the Soviet period, the palace was a museum and the Leningrad Palace of Pioneers (children of school age).
A bridge was built across the Fontanka River. The bridge was built by an engineer battalion under the command of lieutenant-colonel engineer Mikhail Anichkov. It was from here that the bridge got its name.

The bridge in the corners is decorated with four bronze statues "The Conquest of the Horse" by sculptor Peter Klodt, made by him in 1841-1851.

Great post! My friends and family are of Russian heritage, and I'm always so jealous when they visit Saint Petersburg. Architectural miracles everywhere you look.

Thank you for your appreciation. I really love my native St. Petersburg and its masterpieces of architecture and art. In the 90s I hosted guests group of athletes from Minnesota and they really liked my excursions around Petersburg and its surroundings. Welcome to Petersburg as well :)

This post is epic, such a great history. I've been educated beyond what I expected. Thanks for sharing this. I love the photo works as well.

Thank you for attention. Always glad to talk about my city more.

the work is beautiful and very professioanl, im glad for that sucess , could you tell me the secret of all thoese upvots thats really impressive , im having a hard start i need some encouragment and i belive in this beautiful community

I started with my family and friends, at first it was difficult for us, too. But diligence and effort win everything. Well, it is important to invest in order to receive. Film company Hollywood first invests money in their films and only then either gets something or loses ...

The bridge sign and the statues are beautiful. And next to the bridge there is a pier where excursion boats run along the rivers and canals of St. Petersburg. I traveled by boat on the rivers and canals couple times probably, me and my friends liked this trips very much.

I have lived in Petersburg for many years and of course I know the city well. Therefore, I decided to write about what I know. Welcome to "steemit".
