World Rhythm Festival – festival artwork creation
World Rhythm Festival 2021
After the need to cancel last year’s festival due to the covid lockdown, the Seattle World Percussion Society is back with a new summer festival. In years past the event was held at the Seattle Center, but this year they have moved to Columbia City (in south Seattle), a cool upcoming neighborhood of restaurants, micro-breweries and arts.
I created this image to represent multiple ethnicities including Indian and Brazilian. The artwork includes tent buildings reflecting the nature of this venue – a mix of indoor, outdoor, and online events. The clothing patterns derived from African, Indian, and Brazilian fabrics.
My original pen and ink drawing
I created the sketch, redrew it and continued to refine it until I got things to a place that felt good. Then I scanned the pencil drawing and placed it as a background template in Adobe Illustrator. After drawing all the shapes and putting them in the correct order, I developed a palette of 4 colors. This finished artwork will print well across all media, including on t-shirts.
