3 Artworks made by Andrew Gillman & Ziggy Grudzinskas from salvaged materials.
These were made in 2014 as a collaboration between myself and Ziggy Grudzinskas for the 'Dubl Trubl' show that was held at Urban Spree Gallery in Berlin.
We salvaged all the materials from the old Megabowl building on Streatham Highroad that was earmarked for demolition. This was mainly, different types of glass, metal, mirror and plastic. The Megabowl complex was somewhere that we spent time as kids and in that way the material had some sentimental and historical value too. Also there was such interesting material in there, from the stripy mirror to tinted glass and metal mesh.
We then painted, and marked the materials with paint, ink, glass etch, glass scratcher, blow torch, metal etch and then layered them and mounted them into old aluminum screen printing frames that we had. This style also reflects our graffiti background in the style of painting and the mediums used. It was a lot of fun creating these pieces and we plan to make some more in the future.
They are called 'We met', 'A long', 'Time ago', as we are old friends!
We still have them at our homes in London.
