Cutting - a drawing for the novel Dwelling
Snip, snip, snip!
In this post you can see the illustration 'Cutting' that I created for Chapter Thirty Eight of @dougkarr's thrilling novel Dwelling.
Mioko sat at her table in the late afternoon carefully cutting her spread off the back of the Village Voice. She felt a little like a ten year old as she pasted the ad in her old scrapbook.

Creating an illustration for Dwelling
To create the image areas were masked out, and a pair of scissors and glue stick were laid on the paper before ink was splattered across the paper. Water was used to blend some of the ink, then the objects and masking tape were removed and the paper left to dry. The next stage was to use a dip pen and drawing ink to apply some of the finer outlines to the objects.
Maybe the Lamerica experience hadn't been her life's pinnacle, but there was something undeniably affirming about pasting it in across from a Providence Journal clipping of her high school choir.
