RE: Weekly Update #2 - Code and Life
Thank you for reading, I'm happy you like the updates! (and sorry for the late response) :) The @curie vote helped a lot, since it took me around two hours to write this , and I feared that it may be a little too long, but receiving the upvote and all these comments gave me some confidence. Hopefully in the future, I'll find a way to shorten these updates a little.
I'm kinda surprised about the progress to be honest, I'm almost at the level I was years ago when it comes to coding, and all that in around two weeks. Last time it took me a year to get here, so I couldn't be happier with how fast I'm moving forward.
If everything keeps going "according to plan", and I can get good enough soon, then I can start working on a few projects and then look for a job using my portfolio.
The Blender project is kinda massive. It will require a lot of experience (so first I need to get better at 3D, composition, lighting. etc) and also learning a new tool. Basically, I want to remake and even improve the graphics of an old game, from scratch. The map of the game is quite big, and I don't want to just remake everything, but to enhance every aspect of the environment with all kind of small details and better textures.
But for all that I may need to learn how to use a game engine, because doing it all and putting it together with Blender would be kinda impossible (I would need an incredibly powerful computer to do that). Besides that, I want the environment to be explorable, and I can't do that using Blender.
Plus, I need to learn how to make textures on my own, so besides a game engine, I'll have to learn how to either use "code" within a software to procedurally generate textures the way I want, or draw them myself, which is pretty complicated as well.
All in all, the project I have in mind is quite huge and would require a lot of work, and right now my main focus is web development. I may start working on it in the future, once I get good enough and financially comfortable.
Related to money, yes, that's exactly what I want to do. I can't just say "money is not important" when literally living requires money, so I must focus on that aspect eventually. The sooner I do it and get it out of the way, the better.
Related to freewriting, I looked into it and I would like to try it. The only "problem" is that usually, I write 10 articles on Monday (well, now only 9, 5 for Medium and 4 for Steemit, leaving the weekly update for Friday) in order to be able to focus on other things (coding, design, 3D) throughout the week, and that doesn't exactly allow me to freewrite daily.
I could take a "promt" that is 3-4 days old and use that, but I'm not sure if it's "allowed". If yes, then I could just use that in my Monday writing whenever I have a hard time finding something to write about. Can I for example pick a "promt" that was chosen Friday, and write about it and publish what I wrote on Monday?
Also, you're right, "coding" is a lot better than "code". I just changed the tag, thanks for the recommendation!
Thank you once again for all the support and for reading the really long update (and now, apparently, really long comment) :)
