This painting continues my exploration of what happens when i overlap several “color octaves”. In both Supernumerary I and II, I overlap 3 octaves of ROYGBIV:
R= 48, 24, 12
O= 24, 12, 6
Y= 16, 8, 4
G= 12, 6, 3
B= 9.6, 4.8, 2.4
I= 8, 4, 2
V= 6.8, 3.4, 1.68
This allows for exciting color mapping because some circles can be several colors: 24 inch circle can be both Red and Orange, 6 can be both Orange and Green, 12 can be both Red Orange and Green, 4 can be both Yellow and Indigo, 8 can be both Yellow and Indigo.B6E9FC08-C9AF-44C2-AE44-694FC4453226.jpeg

If you look at this central motif, you will see the order of the rainbow goes ROYGBIVGBIVGBIV, which is very similar to what can be observed in a natural rainbow in the sky that, due to visual harmonics, creates a “supernumerary” rainbow effect of overlapping light waves.

Great job as always, you were able to capture the overlapping light and color so perfectly. Look forward to many more!
