Playing With Gelly Roll Gel Pens
Thistles And Butterflies
WIP=Work In Progress
I was going to do a contour line drawing and I kinda went into a cross-hatch/contour drawing.
I will be adding color tomorrow for the second layer. I used my white gel-pen because many of the transparent colors I love do not show up on black paper. Adding the white lines makes the transparent colors pop.
I used a charcoal pencil to draw a simple outline. I add detail using my white gel-pen. I like to have a nice outline to work on because I feel I can't draw out an image and then add color. I feel like I don't have enough confidence. I usually draw an image on transparent paper several times before I transfer onto my paper using carbon paper. I found white carbon paper that erases easily. I will be using carbon paper and transfer the image onto my black paper from now on because transferring calms my nerves; I won't goof up and ruin my paper.
I have 68 different colored pens with two different tip sizes. The color of the pen casing does not represent the true color of the pen's ink. Also, the pen's ink will change color depending on the color of your paper. Getting to know my colors in this medium is fun, I love to explore new things. Some people may think this looks like a lot of work, your idea of work is my idea of fun!
My memory works best when I write down information in detail. For some reason doing this task sticks the data into my long-term memory data banks I call my memory library. I learned how to do this memory trick from a psychology class I took, and my professor mentioned mnemonics memory tricks.
I immediately imagine a pair of colorful butterflies with bright colors ,, but I am sure you have prepared the most beautiful colors ,, I will wait until you finish giving him the color
I have my colors all ready to go,...I made up a system that helps me figure out the colors I need and removes confusion looking through 68 pens to find the right colors....hahaha
very nice, you put each pen with its place, a very brilliant idea @reddust
a pair of very beautiful butterflies, do you draw by imagination? or based on what you see he's a wilderness,?
I draw the butterflies and flowers from pictures I have taken or from free sites like pixabay @steemitcountry. Most of the time I draw from a photograph or many photographs and I take parts of the pictures I like and rearrange them into a pattern I find pleasing.
maybe one day you @reddust have to try to direct draw from the outdoors, would be more challenging
This drawing worked out exceptionally well.
I am not sure if it is just because butterfly wings are already cellular, or if it was just the right amount of hatching.
I very much like the way you drew the thistle.
And it shows that you have a good hand. Because drawing parallel lines is not something a novice can do repeatedly.
I bet the drawing looks even better than the pictures because the lines actually have a dimension off the page. So, more popping action.
Enjoyed ^_^
The process is becoming easier for me. I think I am going to do some daily practice drawing into my routine. I need more confidence that only practice brings. The thistles did turn I great, I am happy with effect. I am keeping my fingers cross the next layer of color will look as awesome as the black and white drawing. Thank you for your support @builderofcastles, it means the world to me...
Hey @reddust! This piece looks great already just with the white lines. I can't wait to see how it look when you add color. I like how you show the behind the scene shot that references your color and numbers.
That is a cool sneak peak that will help new artists think through their content creation process.
I think I will do a separate series of just white on black paper drawings @sumatranate. After I am all worn out drawing butterflies I am going to work on drawing humans. Human anatomy is my weak spot...so get ready for some awful work and have fun with me as I try and improve my skill, much love to you and your little family.
@reddust, You starting again Thistles And Butterflies art work using gel pen. I think you're satisfactions gel pen art works than water colors or oil paintings. Looking to see outstanding outlines draw. It's really impressive. How many days you want to finish gel pen production?
This type of work takes about 16 hours from planning out the drawing to finishing up the detail work. Thank you @madushanka for being a consistent thoughtful friend supporting my art work. I have grown very fond of our talks regarding my Dhamma/Dharma articles, you are a good friend <3
Loving it so far; I love the details. It must have taken a few hours to make :)
@anca3drandom, eventually the drawings will be sold and I try and put everything I have into them. These particularry pieces take about 16 hours of work from research to final product. My larger pictures take 4 to 6 hours a day 5 days a week, for a month or more...hours and hours of work. I like it when time disapears and I become the picture ;-)
Wow, that's dedication. I wish I had your perseverance :)
It's a great feeling to see the finished piece of art !
can i use regular cardstock black paper?
Yes jcab, these pens will work on any kind of paper but very smooth surfaces are the best for detail work. The fine nibs 06, wont work on very rough paper.
@reddust,
Hokey Tokey, now that time started! I was awaiting to see this! Now it begins :D My dear friends news adventure with "Gelly Roll Gel Pens"!
Cheers~
@theguruasia, I just want to say I love you and thank you for supporting me through all these months, I want to visit your country and I suspect next year 2019 I will have the funds to do so, get ready for a crazy hillbilly from the North West Costal American coming to visit...We talk loud and fast and like to give lots of hugs.
You are organized and have a process as to how you do these drawings. Your pens bring magical color to your artistry. We have confidence in you I forget things too. Looking forward to the final product @reddust
Thank you @enjoywithtroy, I have found through trail and error having an organized work space and a well planned out piece makes the work flow and now worries...I want to thank you for supporting me, our commuication has helped me through the times I feel tired and my migraines were overwhelming me...I haven't had one is almost 2 months, changing my diet has helped and my good friends from Steemit have given me the encouragement I needed to keep working on my art and writing skills, without your support I wouldn't have improved as much as I have...(hugs)
I am really sure that you will going to fill true life in these butterflies and i am waiting for the end result. And it's really great to know your memory technique and yes, any written schedule or work really effective because we can look towards it over and over. Thanks for sharing. 🙂
I hope I bring others happiness with these drawings and sharing my experience @chireerocks, I can't wait to finish this piece, I never know exactly how it will turn out. The ending is always suprise for me. Organization and planing helps me complete my projects.
Great to hear these words. Keep up the great work. 🙂
