"Art for Booze" to Be Held in St. Petersburg for the Second Time
The connoisseurs of everything that’s wonderful will have an opportunity to exchange alcohol for a painting once again—for the second time an “Art for Booze” sale will take place in St. Petersburg [Russia]. As part of the project the artists are going to auction off their works, with the starting bid of a bottle from the bar.
“For the second time, on September 7th, a sensational auction ‘Art for Booze’ will happen in St. Petersburg. Sponsored by the creative union Buro Dram, the activity became one of the most sensational events of the Russian underground life in 2015. To the participants it was obvious that the auction should become an annual event. The unusual auction rules and its bold format aroused a great deal of interest not only in St. Petersburg, but also among the capitol audience, as well as in the foreign press,” organizers expressed.
According to the organizers, the auction reveals just how easy it is for people to spend money on partying, and the same can’t be said about the works of art.
This year, the event will take place at Etobar on Vladimirsky Prospect [Vladimir Avenue]. The organizers are promising the participation of 24 most influential avant-garde artists of the northern capitol, including Malevich’s granddaughter Svetlana Zvirkunova, Witchcraft Artists member Nikolai Vasilyev, the author of “Cats of Famous Artists” Andrei Sikorskiy, and Evgeny Butenko.
As we mentioned earlier, the debut of Art for Booze took place in February of last year at the Silence gallery. Last year’s lineup included artists Nikolai Vasilyev, Vladimir Garde, Stas Kazimov, Alexandra Ovchinnikova, Sergei Larionov, Stas Voronko, and Svetlana Zvirkunova. Moreover, the guests got to listen to a lecture titled “The History of Art for Booze: Monet to DeGarde”.
