Blockchain Art Collective - Bringing my Physical Artworks to the Blockchain
Dear Art-Lovers,
I just recently discovered an initiative called Blockchain Art Collective, who makes it possible to register and track physical artworks with support from blockchain and IoT technology.
We help to assign a unique, tamper-evident, and secured identity to a physical work of art, which stays connected to it over time. This identity, or Blockchain Art Certificate of Authenticity (COA), is created digitally and physically using Blockchain and Internet of Things (IoT) technology.
But what's in for the artist?
Jackie O’Neill, visual artist and Executive Director of Blockchain Art Collective, just recently gave an interesting interview about the project at The Creative Crypto magazine. She explaines, why it's quite revolutionary:
Artists can self-register their artworks to blockchain [...]. This means they can, for an extremely affordable price, let people know key information about an artwork and who the author is. This information and identity stays with the artwork for life, and allows artists to fight rip offs, track provenance over time when they transfer ownership, and collect royalties long after the artwork has left their hands. Why can’t a starving artist get a cut of a $100K sale of their work if people find it so valuable?
I felt extremely addressed by this and being a curious early adoptor, I ordered a starter kit containing four NFC-enabled Blockchain Art Cerificates of Authenticity.
Our tamper-evident Certificates are embedded with a Near Field Communication (NFC) microchip, which holds a unique cryptographic identity that is exclusively associated with object it is affixed to over time. NFC microchips, one kind of IoT devices, collect and provide access to data by scanning them with a mobile phone or NFC-enabled device using the Blockchain Art Application.
Technical requirements
Before I could start bringing some of my phyiscal paintings in the blockchain, I first needed to get my hands on a NFC-enabled Android device. So I decided to order a LG K10 entry level smartphone for about 80 Euro/90 USD.
The installation of the software was done very quickly, but now I am spoilt for choice which of my acrylic paintings to certify first.

I'm planning to register the following four artworks. Please let me know, if you're interested in getting one of them and I will happily sell it for Steem/SBD or other common cryptocurrencies. Just comment or contact me on Discord!

Torn - Acrylic on Canvas - 40 x 50 cm (15,6 x 19,7 inch)- 2018

More Infos and an open call
The Blockchain Art Collective is also hosting the ‘Art and Blockchain Symposium’ at the Blockchain World Conference in Miami, Florida this December!
During Art Basel Miami, one of the largest art affairs in the world, the BAC will be hosting discussions and events around the impact of blockchain on artistic industries and practice. [They are] also hosting an open call until October 31 for art to be displayed and sold during the event as well as panelists to participate for the symposium’s discussions.

Wow! This is a great initiative. A more reason for me to envy being an artist 😉

Haha, I guess being an artist is nothing to envy. It is more a calling than a conscious decision and there are certainly easier ways than that of an artist.
Yeah, sounds right! Words of wisdom, thank you.

Great! Feel free to get back to me, if you have any questions.
Taking the art to the whole new level this is exciting :D
