Open Doors at the Bauhaus University in Weimar
Dear doorkeeper,
today I want to share some beautiful doors with you, that I spotted in a server room in Weimar.
I saw them while visiting the yearly summaery of the Bauhaus University last month.
From 13 to 16 July 2017 the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar celebrated the end of the semester with its annual »summaery« show. Throughout the city students and instructors presented their current discourses, positions, work and research projects in the form of exhibitions, performances, readings and demonstrations.
Unfortunately I have no idea which students made the doors and where they're originally from. The signage was kind of weak...
So if anybody of the Bauhaus University reads this post, I'd be happy if you'd add some names and background information in the comments.
Very nice doors! Are they mounted onto the doors or have they applied light sensitive chemicals to the surface and then exposed it or used some sort of gel image transfer like Image Maker?
Thanks! It looked like they'd used brass tiling and exposed the images onto them (most likely using chemicals). Then the brass was mounted onto the doors.
Cool!
I love the symbolism of doors in general. Entrance<>Exit. Like a medium between two worlds. Burned, damaged, with paintings and different decorations. Like their owners wanted to let you know where you are entering. Like those creepy skulls and the metal decorations itself, they are scary... and it is always just outside aka entrance of the door is decorated, right?
Good analysis! Doors are the gatekeepers of the inside world and they really have to tell lots of interesting stories, I suppose.
I also have the feeling, that these doors are telling a lot about what to expect behind them. They are kind of a glimpse of what's inside.
On the other hand, I know some people, that also decorate doors from the inside, mostly because they are ugly...
I'd love to see some of those lol
Maybe I do a post about them some day ;-)
I will be watching :)
Wow thanks for another great tour, I really enjoyed that. Interesting & beautiful.
