RE: 🎨 "Heavy Metal" - a not so heavy way to frame a painting
Your insight and abilities are amazing, my friend. The last one is one of my favorites of all your works that I’ve seen so far. I fantasize about possessing one of your originals one day.
I really enjoy reading the comments you get, and your responses. Always so polite, positive, gracious and humble you are. 😘
Agnes Bernauer, the figure that last painting is about, has accompanied me almost all of my professional life and I did three major artworks on her and the tragic story.
Of this painting I made two versions and a series of... how should I call it.. semi originals? The sheets were printed in a tiny edition of 99 and then I painted on the prints, turning each one in a one of a kind.
Don't know, if you read this post about how a collector became a friend after a "funny" first encounter. He also owns this original. I once asked him to borrow it to me for an exhibition in Brussels for 3 weeks. He agreed, but when I brought it back, my friend's wife told me, that not having the painting around almost killed him. I found out, that he would sit on a chair in front of it every day, gazing at it for hours...
I'm not sure how strong your desire to turn a fantasy into a reality is, but I don't think, it would be too difficult to own one of my originals. Interestingly enough, I just sold my first fine art print for 30 SBD.. shipping a glass painting is the bigger issue, but I can always hand deliver it ;-)
I think, when someone is interested enough, to actually look at/read my post and even leave a comment, an adequate reply is the least I can do. I usually look at the blog of everyone who leaves a halfway decent comment too.
Plus I really enjoy these little chats, like the conversations you and I are having 😊
Well I can’t stop looking at your Agnes work here. Sean feels the same way as me about it and says, “I want that original....” Pity it’s already owned and beloved by your friend. Perhaps one of your unique reproductions will have to do on this one.
As you know we have moved and buying everything new in Puerto Rico. I only brought 2 decorative items with me here...a pair of metal angel wings that a sweet friend gave me before I left and the lady skates print you sent me. So, you are already partly here in spirit.
The thought of you both liking "Agnes" that much is very flattering, thank you for telling me :-)
Since my friend turned 80 last year, he is looking for a museum to "inherit" his collection. Interestingly enough, he won't let his sons have it, because he thinks they'll just sell the paintings. To him it is important that the collection stays complete and so I am afraid getting just the one is next to impossible.
It means a lot to me, that you like the little "LadySkates" and brought it to your new home. I hope it will always bring a ray of joy for you both.
Right now I only have two of the sheets I mentioned on my website. I'm planing to do a few more in the coming weeks (with different color hair).. Sorry, its only in German, but you can click on the images to enlarge and this may give you a rough idea of what they look like... I also have a print in the quality of "LadySkates", only much bigger :-)
