WOW!
The Coronavirus (COVID-19) has become what many of us have only seen in apocalyptic movies... And this whole situation does look like a movie.
Over here @TheMonkeyzuelnas are reported to be very healthy, proactive, working non-stop and most of all NOT LEAVING HOME.
In fact our life has not changed much from normal to quarantine, being freelance designers our work is basically from home, we just go out to get groceries, to be tourists eventually, and to meet with our local clients.
The shopping and groceries trips have been reduced to the maximum, in fact, before all this went out of control we had already filled the cupboards and bought the necessary implements and products to avoid and even fight the Coronavirus if it were to be infected.
The outings are completely cancelled, of course, and even if we wanted to go out, everything is relatively closed for obvious reasons. The same happens with our local clients here in Chile, we don't have meetings with them because they are also in the same situation of general sanitary alert where every meeting of people must be strictly necessary.
Concluding the issue of quarantine, here in Chile it is still not mandatory, despite that, because of our favorable working conditions and availability of time entered voluntary quarantine about 10 days ago, and although we continue working as before, as we practically do not leave the house, we have had time to have some fun.
And as we mentioned at the beginning:

In the middle of the worldwide explosion of Coronavirus we developed this illustration completely from scratch. Here we will show screenshots of the process, likewise in Instagram we have a video of the entire process and other details, specifically in the profile of our Creative Agency Multitakers.

La inspiración viene de lugares inesperados, hasta de una pandemia.
¡WOW!
EL Coronavirus (COVID-19) ha llegado a ser lo que muchos de nosotros solo hemos visto en peliculas apocalipticas... Y si que toda esta situación parece una pelicula de cine.
Por acá @TheMonkeyzuelnas se reportan muy sanos, proactivos, trabajando sin parar y sobre todo SIN SALIR DE CASA.
De hecho nuestra vida no ha cambiado mucho de la normalidad a la cuarentena, siendo diseñadores freelance nuestro trabajo es básicamente desde casa, solamente salimos a hacer compras, a pasear eventualmente, y a reuniones con neustros clientes locales.
Las salidas de compras las hemos reducido al máximo, de hecho, antes de que todo esto se saliera de control ya habiamos llenado las alacenas y comprado los implementos y productos necesarios para evitar y hasta combatir el Coronavirus si se diera el caso de ser contagiados.
Las salidas de paseo estan completamente canceladas, por supuesto, además, aunque quisieramos salir, todo está relativamente cerrado por obvias razones. Igualmente sucede con nuestros clientes locales acá en Chile, no tenemos reuniones con ellos porque también están en la misma situación de alerta sanitaria general en donde toda reunion de personas debe ser estrictamente necesaria.
Concluyendo el tema de la cuarentena, acá en Chile aun no es obligatoria, a pesar de eso, nosotros por nuestras favorables condiciones de trabajo y disponibilidad de tiempo entramos en cuarentena voluntaria hace unos 10 dias, y aunque seguimos trabajando igual que antes, como practicamente no salimso de casa, hemos tenido tiempo de divertirnos un poco.
Y como ya citamos al principio:
La inspiración viene de lugares inesperados, hasta de una pandemia.
En plena explosión mundial de Coronavirus desarrollamos esta ilustración completamente desde cero. Acá mostraremos capturas de pantallas del proceso, de igual manera en Instagram tenemos un video del proceso completo y otros detalles, especificamente en el perfil de nuestra Agencia Creativa Multitakers.
We divide the illustration process in 3 parts, sketching, outlining and coloring. So...
SKETCH
First a sphere (which came out terrible), the hands and feet, defining a little what would be the human races, and the crown obviously because it is the CROWN-virus. It makes sense, doesn't it?
Nosotro dividimos las ilustraciones en 3 partes, bocaje, delineado y colorización. Asi que...
BOCETO
Primero una esfera (que quedó terrible), las manos y los pies, definiendo un poco lo que serían los razgos humanos, y la corona obviamente porque es el CORONA-virus. ¿Tiene sentido no?
That was the most basic part of the sketch, now with a little more detail but still without defining much, in fact quite loose.
Esa fue la parte más básica del bocetaje, ahora con un poco más de detalle pero aun así sin definir mucho, de hecho bastante flojo.
The sphere starts to be covered with big shapes based on basic geometrical figures and some more line beads to give volume to the face, with this the desired evil expression is achieved.
Se empieza a cubrir la esfera con formas grandes grandes basadas en figuras geométricas básicas y unas cuentas lineas más para ir dandole volúmen al rostro, con esto se va logrando la expresión de maldad deseada.
After defining the forms of the face come the hands, feet, and the crown that cannot be missing.
Luego de definir las formas del rostro vienen las manos, pies, y la corona que no puede faltar.
Having the body ready, only one of the characteristics that are repeated in the graphic representation of viral cells was missing, and those are the "little antennas", scientifically called Glycoprotein.
The Glycoprotein is the protein of the virus that binds it to the human cells
Al tener el cuerpo listo, solo faltaba una de las caraterísticas que se repiten en la representación gráfica de células virales, y esas son las "antenitas", que cientificamente se llama Glicoproteína.
La Glicoproteína, es la proteína del virus que se encagra de unirlo con las células humanas
Now comes the part where the magic really begins:
OUTLINES
For the delineation we used a "brush" that resembles a relatively hard graphite pencil, which leaves empty points in the strokes giving a very real and interesting texture.
Again the order of work is the same, the face, hands, feet, crown and "little antennas".
Ahora viene la parte donde realmente empieza la magia:
DELINEADO
Para el delineado se usó un "pincel" que asemeja un lapiz de grafito relativamente duro, que deja puntos vacíos en los trazos dando una textura muy real e interesante.
De nuevo el orden de trabajo es el mismo, el rostro, manos, pies, corona y "antenitas".
As you can see the crown has undergone some conceptual changes, one of the best things about this type of illustration is that many details are completely spontaneous.
If you watch the IGTV video from [Multitaskers] Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/multitaskers/) you'll notice that we made every part of the character and deleted it several times until we got something that looked really cool.
Como pueden ver la corona sufrio algunos cambios conceptuales, una de las mejores cosas de este tipo de ilustraciones es que muchos detalles son completamente espontaneos.
Si ven el video de IGTV del Instagram de Multitaskers se darán cuenta que cada parte del personaje se hizo y se borró varias veces hasta lograr algo que de verdad se viera genial.
After having all the eyeliner ready, the next step was to define a hatch texture for deep areas and thus denote more volume, in addition more details were added to the surface of the skin and eyes.
Luego de tener todo el delineado listo el proximo paso fue definir una textura de trama para zonas profundas y asi denotar más volumen, además se agregaron más detalles de la superficie de la piel y los ojos.
At this point all the delineation and textures are ready now the third and last part:
COLORIZATION
In this part we will not go very deep in the explanation since everything was decided while the illustration was being developed, what we will comment beforehand is that we used many layers of color, each color is a different layer each.
En este punto todo el delineado y texturas estan listos ahora la tercera y última parte:
COLORIZACIÓN
En esta parte no iremos muy profundo en la explicación ya que todo fue decidido mientras se iba desarrollando la ilustración, lo que si comentaremos de antemano es que utilizamos muchas capas de color, cada color es una capa diferente cada.
As a final touch for the protagonist of one of the most intense pandemics on the planet, we added reflections of light bouncing off the whole body, thinking a bit about the situation where "the little antennae" have a yellow glow.
Como toque final para el protagonista de una de las pandemias mas intensas del planeta, agregamos reflejos de rebote de luz en todo el cuerpo, pensando un poco en la situación en que "las antenitas" tienen un brillo color amarillo.
The real finishing touch and one that we are certainly not used to is making the whole scene to give it a slightly more real context, in short, the background.
El verdadero toque final y uno al que por cierto no estamos muy acostumbrados es a hacer la escena completa para darle un contexto un poco más real, en pocas palabras, el fondo.
It was necessary to make some relatives too, do not believe that a highly contagious virus like COVID-19 walks alone.
Habia que hacer unos familiares también, no crean que un virus altamaente contagioso como el COVID-19 anda solo.
Oops! We completely forgot to color the teeth. Pretty neat for an evil virus, don't you think? Not for long.
¡Ups! Olvidamos por completo colorizar los dientes. Bastante pulcros para ser un virus malevolo ¿No creen?, no por mucho tiempo.

This is the final result, with which we are super happy and we will certainly continue to experiment.

The whole illustration took about 8 hours of process that we summarized in 3 minutes and 50 seconds video, which as we mentioned before is in the IGTV of the Instagram of Multitaskers.

We hope you enjoyed this post a bit long but full of fun images of the whole illustration process.
On the other hand, the Coronavirus (COVID-19) has taken many lives, there are many people in a serious state, many are still sick and many more will get sick if the necessary measures are not taken, however, there are many governments more interested in the stability of the economy, than in the health of the population, which is truly regrettable, as ordinary citizens, the only thing we can do that really benefits everyone is to stay at home taking all the precautionary measures to not get infected or to not infect others.
This illustration is not to glorify the virus, it is in fact to respect it, and of course to be able to carry this message of empathy, awareness and collective responsibility as we know best.
Let's hope that everyone around here is well, take care of themselves, take care of their families, take care of their neighbors, take care of their friends, take care of humanity.
We'll get through this together!
Toda la ilustración llevó unas 8 horas de proceso que resumimos en 3 minutos y 50 segundos de video, que como mencionamos antes esta en el IGTV del Instagram de Multitaskers.

Por otro lado, el Coronavirus (COVID-19) ha tomado muchisimas vidas, hay muchas personas en estado grave, muchas siguen enfermas y muchas más enfermaran si no se toman las medidas necesarias, sin embargo, hay muchos gobiernos más interesados en la estabilidad de la economica, que en la salud de la población, lo que es verdaderamente lamentable, como ciudadanos comunes, lo único que podemos hacer que de verdad beneficia a todos es permancer en casa tomando todas las medidas de precaución para no contagiarnos o para no contagiar a los demás.
Esta ilustración no es para enaltecer al virus, de hecho es para respetarlo, y por supuesto, con el fin de poder llevar este mensaje de empatía, consciencia y responsabilidad colectiva como mejor sabemos hacerlo.
Esperemos que todos por acá esten bien, cuidense, cuiden de sus familiares, cuiden de sus vecinos, cuiden de sus amigos, cuiden de la humanidad.

Yes!!! We live in Santiago! We're also 'self-quarentineing'. Waiting for the 'oficial' real quarentine announcement to really figth this thing, but well, it's just politics interests after all, which sucks. We're totally down to meet up when it's safe to be out there for sure 😁
