Ondo State (Nature with gods)
The most widely speak yoruba state in nigeria, not like other yoruba state you can see a particular set of people speaking yoruba.
Originally created in the year 1976 out of the old Western state, Ondo state is one of the major states in the Yoruba-dominated south-western region of Nigeria. Its original boundaries were adjusted in 1996(year nigeria won olympic games) to make way for the creation of Ekiti state, making it the third largest state in the southwest region.
Ondo state,also known as the "Sunshine State" is divided into 18 Local Government Areas:
Akoko North-East, Akoko North-West, Akoko South-East, Akoko South-West, Akure North, Akure South, Ese Odo, Idanra, Ifedore, Ilaje, Ile Oluji/Okeigbo, Irele, Odigbo, Okitipupa, Ondo West, Ose and Owo. The state administrative capital is the city of Akure which is said to have been founded by the grandson of the great Yoruba progenitor Oduduwa.
The cosmopolitan city centre accounts for almost 25% of the total population of Ondo state which is estimated to be just under 4 million. Both Yoruba and English are accepted as lingua France, and the majority of Ondo indigenous practice Christianity, though Islam us also widely practiced, and there are substantial numbers of adherents of traditional African religion who worship Yoruba gods: Ogun (the god of iron), the Ifa Oracle, Sango (the god of thunder), and several masquerades (egungun) believed to be the spirit of dead ancestors.
Ondo state share common boundaries with Ogun and Osun states to the west, Ekiti and Kogi state to the north and Edo and Delta states to the east. Along its southern fringes, the Sunshine State is endowed with some 50miles of coastline on the Bight of Benin.
The people of ondo are also well know for farming and their traditional costume is not different compare to other yoruba cities, purely natural rocks are also find there as it is believe that rock grows meanwhile the actual growth of a rock depends on the geological status of that rock. solid minerals are also find in such beautiful area.
