Martha, Marcy, May, Marlene in two shots and some words

Martha, Marcy, May, Marlene.

Chilling, subtlety chilling, and real.  Elizabeth Olsen, younger sister of the twins, plays a girl who has broken from a cult, but who is now broken and scared and real and haunted.  Almost every shot in the movie involves her and she’s captivating, radiating warmth and vulnerability and pathos...and complete and total unreliability.  This is a movie that lingers; it takes some pretty pedestrian settings and tapioca cultish people, wearing v-neck white t-shirts, solid color pullovers and jeans, and makes them legitimately scary and menacing, almost no longer human.  I don’t like to picture them at night.  The movie makes the viewer feel vulnerable. Underrated and forgotten by now, but still taut and worthy.

I digest movies into two shots and some words here. I will strive to be spoiler free because my hope is that each time I write, it's a jumping off point for someone else to check out a movie they otherwise wouldn't. Or even for someone with a sharp thought to drop it down below. Follow me if you love movies or want to start! Looking forward to a long, beautiful Steeming experience.
