Disappeared masterpieces. Jan Vermeer.
Dutch painter Jan Vermeer created his painting "Concert" in the interval between 1663 and 1666 years. The painting shows two musicians playing musical instruments and a girl who sings to music. It is also interesting that Vermeer displayed in the room on the wall one of the paintings of the famous Dutch painter Dirk van Baubyren "Procuress". The second picture is an ordinary natural landscape.
In 1696, the painting after the death of the artist was sold by the heirs and until 1780 the picture was not known. The work was discovered in a private collection in France.
In 1892, the painting was auctioned in Paris, where a well-known American collector and patron, Isabella Stuart Gardner, bought the work for $ 5,000.
Isabella Stewart Gardner was the founder of the museum-gallery, where she exhibited masterpieces of world art. In 1903, the painting by Jan Vermeer "Concert" was exhibited in the Isabella Gardner Museum.
On March 18, 1990, Jan Vermeer's painting "Concert" was stolen from the museum, along with another 13 paintings by famous artists.
The search for the picture has not yielded results so far. The picture is irretrievably lost. This is one of the most expensive stolen works to date. The cost of the picture of Jan Vermeer "Concert" is estimated at $ 200 million.
