Exploring Tauchain / Agoras

Fellow Steemians, here is my proposal for the Tauchain / Agoras logo contest. Big thanks to @kevinwong for opening this up to the Steemit community! It's pretty incredible to see all of the concepts and ideas being put forward. Kevin's comment section is really a testament to the creative environment here within Steem. Perhaps more blockchain platforms should consider building up their own network here... it doesn't hurt to connect with a savvy audience while simultaneously incentivizing everyone to ideate, eh? Anyway - food for thought - onto the logos!

What's the difference between Tauchain / Agoras?

Tauchain is the blockchain platform, while Agoras is the first proof of concept application built atop the Tau language. (The two are paired in a way that we're somewhat familiar with - a scenario where Steem is the underlying blockchain and Steemit is an application built on top of it.)

The fabric of Tau is fundamentally unique from other blockchain ecosystems due to its ability to solve complex problems and alleviate the bottlenecks typically found in the process of group decision making. Instead of storing money transactions - the Tau blockchain stores scientific laws, theories, social norms and principles.

Logo Development...

The original logos (below, left) are Greek symbols. Tau is a Greek letter commonly used in math, biology and physics. Agoras is a Greek word that actually means public space. With both symbols, I wanted to explore physical environments - redesigning them almost like relics of Ancient Greek monuments. Specifically, I was interested in mirroring forms and patterns found in amphitheaters (above).

Using the 3D modeling software Rhinoceros, I extruded the profile of each simplified geometry. All the diagrams and final graphics here I rendered through a mix of Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop:

Infinite Loops of Application

Each "relic" has a connection point. When any application (like Agoras) pairs up with the blockchain platform (Tauchain) the two create an infinity symbol that aligns in 2D as well as 3D. (This imagery is a nod to the mobius strip you see pretty frequently in Tauchain explanations.)

Visual Language for a Digital Language

I'm not sure that this ephemeral 2D/3D approach will mesh with folks. But I do hope that the Tauchain Team ultimately adopts a visual language that resonates with their digital language. Crypto logos and catch phrases are a dime a dozen. Tau should stand out.

Dear @voronoi

I wanted to inform you of an opportunity that #promo-steem has for @sndbox and other major projects on the steem blockchain.

We are the media partners for the London Crypto Currency Show on 14th April. In return for this, we have managed to get our hands on 14,000 usd of promotional access in the form of 2 x hour long presentation seminars and one 4 x 3m exhibition stand.

Instead of using the presentation time and exhibition stand to ourselves we decided to let the major projects and notable steemians use it. So we are giving away talking spots and the opportunity exhibit at our stand for free.

This is quite a big deal since the London Crytpo Currency Show is organised by the London Investors Show, a well-established, long term investing exhibition which brings in crowds of 2,500 experienced investors through its doors at most events. This is therefore an excellent opportunity for the steem blockchain to make a strong mark at one of the premier blockchain events in the UK, and Europe basically for free.

Please see this blog for further details. I hope you are interested in either sending someone from your project to talk at one of the seminars, supporting the event or spreading the word to other major projects or notable steemians. https://steemit.com/promo-steem/@starkerz/exhibition-opportunity-call-to-steem-projects-at-london-crypto-currency-show

I look forward to hearing from you!
@starkerz

First time I'm seeing an architecturally inspired logo. Nice work! All the best :D

Awesome! It's amazing to see all the variations. Thanks @kevinwong!

Btw, I don't think Tauchain has any relationship with mobius strips, unless i've missed something! Still, looks cool!

You're right! It's just a visual that I came across in this video. I don't believe there's any correlation other than it being a nice visual to describe chains of data.

@voronoi those are two fantastic designs. I showed both of them to my brother, who is a graphic designer and has helped me with multiple different blockchain projects, and he too was very impressed.

While there are others that are really cool and deserve recognition, I really like your explanation of how you reached yout current design, and it does show your creative talent. Well done!

Tauchain is quite interesting but eventhough I read a lot I didn't get it , Are you Tauchain master kirk ? :D

I am far from it my friend. I'm a Tau hobbyist at best ;)

Nicely done.

Personally, I think/feel the “T” would look better as a steadily declining curve, rather than having the two steps - similar to how the “a” is done...

Thank you @rok-sivante! Good point on the steadily declining "T"... I was debating that but ultimately landed on the tiered version. Might be worth going back and exploring the smoother one again. They definitely match up more seamlessly that way.

Thanks for the feedback!

Hey man. Hats off.

Hey thanks @skapaneas! I really appreciate that :D

Nice work! Love the concept of the two symbols linking up to make an infinity symbol. Also digging the presentation on the black background.

@erb, thanks man. Glad you dig it! The whole process was a great opportunity to research a new blockchain project too.

Why don't you take a stab at it, eh? ;)

Nice design - I like the colour choice and black shading. Plus a good explanation of Tauchain blockchain and Agoras application, I'll go check this out.

@opheliafu, thank you so much! Definitely check it out. It's a lot to digest for me personally but I enjoyed interpreting the bit I found digestible :)

firstly, pretty exciting platform and concept, wow. And I love the relationships of the meanings of the ancient symbols to the platform.

great idea to take these symbols and adjust the perspective AND that they link into an infinity symbol - brilliant! Since you've asked for feedback, the one part I'm not crazy about is the palette. I really like the yellow and fuchsia particularly as in the 4th photo down ob a pale grey surface under the "infinite loops of application" heading, but not when put in a black background or with the blue shown as a part of the palette. Just my 2 cents ;-)

@natureofbeing, thank you for your feedback :)

I totally get that with the palette. It was tough finding a fade-compatible color mix that wasn't too technicolor dreamcoat. (Though maybe I should have just gone for it.) I might toy with this a bit further and provide an alternative mix. Likewise, I prefer the grey backing. As always, thank you!
