The trees in this illustration are perfection, providing a barren and slightly menacing frame for the departing horse-drawn carriage bearing away his beloved.

I decided to go with no drama for the concept: no arguments, no force, no pathos - just the blank inevitability of loss as she is taken away. The glow of the afterlife that Annabel Lee is entering is suggested, along with the rose motif: All that is left to him is the memory of her beauty.
