Contact lenses

This is a project that I created at the beginning of this semester. I first made a mold using plaster and then casted on a half sphere object. And then, I poured the clear resin on to the mold little by little, layers and layers. During each layer, I painted the pattern of the color contact lens and put a little bit of dust and foreign object on. The other half of my project, I put various numbers of contact lenses into a small jar and capture them with water clear encapsulation to mimic the scientific bottles in the lab.


This is a project that about hygiene. How an item that is so close to human being, which seems a part of human body but it is actually a foreign object, produced, stored, and later contaminated. We normally do not see the dirt but once we enlarge the scale, we will realize how close and intimate we are between lenses.

In the future, I would cast a harder and thicker form of the enlarged contact lens, and place it into a wooden base to refer the mirror to see the outside comparing with contaminated lens and without. Additionally, I would also create more soft lenses and place them into an environment that filled with dirt and other unsanitized things.
