Art Explosion Week 31 : The Sands of Time
You cannot stop the sands of time...
This week's Art Explosion Theme explores TIME. This is my interpretation of it.
A person trapped in an hourglass represents how time is inescapable. We are all trapped in time and subject to the changes that come about because of it.
We can only watch as the sands flow - seconds, minutes, hours, days, years...
The Flowers on either side represent new life and also decay that happen through the years. It's also inspired by this grim riddle from The Hobbit by JRR Tolkien.

This thing all things devours:
Birds, beasts, trees, flowers;
Gnaws iron, bites steel;
Grinds hard stones to meal;
Slays king, ruins town,
And beats high mountain down.

Process
I had a hard time thinking of what to draw for the theme this week. I had a lot of ideas, but they didn't really come together nicely when I tried to draw them. This was the only concept I was able to finish when I started sketching.
Created with ArtRage Lite Software. I used the ink pen, watercolor brush and airbrush.
