Hello Dears!

"Hope is that thing with feathers that perches in the soul, and ringtones melodies without words, and does not stop at all" Emily Dickinson

Hoy quería comenzar con esta cita, porque me conmueve mucho y la ilustración se llama "Esperanza" por una razón.

How to illustrate something as ethereal as hope?

I presented myself with a personal challenge, since we all see hope in different ways, so I could illustrate it in the form of flowers, because for me hope is unfading, or in the form of birds, because hope is something that gives us freedom , but I decided to illustrate it like this, like a flame that is born of ourselves, capable of igniting and igniting others, a bright light that illuminates our path.

Without many introductions.

We start to work on this work called "Hope"

Tool:

The tool used was the computer illustration program Paint Tool SAI, better known as SAI. (I never tire of saying that this tool is beautiful, simple and magical).

Design:

This design is completely mine, since it is not part of any reference image. It has a caricature style with somewhat elongated figures, well-defined edges, but with realistic reliefs.

Illustration Process

Sketch

The sketch this time was not simple, it took me a while, since it consisted of two complete characters. I made a very amorphous first sketch. Then, as I was drawing the traits, I was modifying the pressure of the lines, to obtain this final result. (They do not know how many times I moved the girl's leg, I think that giving a more or less anatomical effect, even when it is a caricature is something of the utmost importance).

Base Color

We color the areas taking care to separate each of the colors or sections in different layers, as this will allow us to be more organized than when putting the shadows.

Shadows and lights

You might think that I should first explain shadows and then lights, but the truth is that the process is done simultaneously and it is a lot of trial and error, there is not a perfect cooking recipe to place them. But always keep in mind where the light comes from, in this case, it's the girl's hair, however, we'll put more lights on later.

Hair on fire (Fire effect)

We start by placing a black background that is ideal to give the impression of light that generates fire, and then we define from which place our fire started, in this case from the root of the hair, so that the tips are directed upwards, at the root It will start with lighter shades of yellow and then when going up, use orange to finish with some shades of red at the tips. This is done with the tool "Marker" and then generate the effect of blurring with a tool called "Water Oil", it depends a lot on your version of the program but it is usually like water and oil.

Candle

In case you did not notice he symbolizes a dim candle, and her hair lights it. The effect of fire is the same starts with the lighter tones from the place where it starts, in this case the wick, and then the darker tones are used. Add some small sparks that give a very interesting effect.

Background

In the background I wanted her to radiate some heat and light, while cold and blue tones came out of it.

8.jpg

Extra lights

Add a little more light since it is supposed that the fire should shine in a certain way, this I did in a layer of "Luminosity".

This is all for today my Dears. I hope you have fun with me in this post full of Hope and drawing tips. I wait for you in next post. A huge hug and do not forget to keep the lama of hope alive, especially those who are going through a difficult time.
