Well-trained, a sexy figure and heavily armed ...

Sorry for my bad English. Here is my attempt to describe an Amazon.

They were strong, well-trained and cruel - those legendary women who allegedly waged war
against Athens, fought at the gates of Troy and met Alexander the Great.

The Greek scribes described the heavily armed Amazons as "masculine" (Homer) and "well-behaved" (Pindar). They should have lived in a man-free society, or at least in one in which everything was different than in the classical Greece: In the Amazon region, men did women's work, women took over men's roles. And for these conditions to remain (Diodorus reported), the male offspring were mutilated. Or even killed after birth.

If ancient artists depicted the man-killing beasts, they added to the horror of eroticism, after all, most vases were bought by men. So: bared breasts, short skirts, distant look. The Amazon was primarily a male projection.

The attack of the women's army on Athens has never happened. Rather, the myth of the Amazons was a cultural creation, a pointed counter-thought. He should probably make it clear that there was no alternative to male-dominated society. Geographically, this terrible counter-proposal was placed on the edge of the known world, north of the Black Sea and in the Caucasus.

In many tombs women have been buried not only with jewelry or ceramics, but also with weapons: arrow bows, spearheads, daggers, riding clothes and bridles.

The warlike women's people never existed. But the historian Herodotus reported at least about the flight of the Amazons to the northern Black Sea coast - and that they had connected with the Scythians living there. The graves prove that there were armed women there 2500 years ago - but not a women's people.

And the women were strong! The typical warrior of the steppe areas was well trained.
"Due to the meat-based diet and the versatility of the exercises, she probably corresponded to the type of today's multi-fighters: strong, flexible and slim.

When America was discovered, there were also stories of legendary women's empires there. The Amazon region has its name, and California is named after the Amazon queen Califia.

Women in equestrian sports are still called Amazons today.
