Travel Guide to Britania Group of Islands, Surigao del Sur

in #asia6 years ago (edited)

The last time I visited Britania group of islands was in 2013, when there was no tourist. Mostly, the visitors at that time were from Surigao del Sur like us, and from the nearby provinces.

Fast forward from now, I visited the islets again and a lot has changed. From small boats to big island hopping boats, from no crowd to tons of people flocking in each island. I guess time flies really fast and I guess it is safe to say that news travels faster than time.

So if you want to visit these islands, here's a comprehensive guide that you can take note.

How to get to Britania Group of Islands?

From Tandag:

  • There are direct flights to Tandag from Cebu via Cebu Pacific. (flights are available as of this writing..kindly check Cebu Pacific Air for more details.)
  • Take a bus going to Butuan, Mangagoy or Bislig. Travel time is between 2-3 hours. You can ask the conductor to stop by at the street corner going to Britania Group of islands in Hinatuan.

From Butuan:

  • There are flights to Butuan from Cebu and Manila.
  • Take a bus going to Tandag. Travel Time is 2-3 hours. You can ask the conductor to stop by at the corner going to Britania Group of islands in Hinatuan.

Costs and Expenses

  • Entrance Fee - Php30.00
  • Toll Fee - Php30.00
  • Boat - Php1500.00 - We rented our boat from La Entrada Beach Resort

Itinerary and Our Experience

We brought our own food for this island hopping trip. It was an extended birthday celebration of my father so we had a lot of leftover food from the party last night.

P.S. The island hopping tours here usually do not cover food so it is better to bring your own.

Agunoy Island

Britania Group of Islands

Our First stop was Agunoy Island. The island has a long sandbar, with coconuts scattered on the other side. The beach is good for swimming and there are also a few rides like the banana boat that you can try on this island.

What I like about this island is there is available seafood for sale here such as sea urchins, and other seashells of different sizes. Most of them only cost Php100.00 per pack.

Naked Island

Britania Group of Islands

I heard this same island name a couple of times in different places, but every single time I hear this name, I always associate it with the Naked Island in Britania Group of Islands because it is where I heard it for the first time.

Naked Island like it's name is just a white sand bar and nothing more. Naked as it is.

As it was not okay to land in the Naked Island at that time, we proceeded to our next destination.

Boslon Island

Britania Group of Islands

In this island is where all the action begins. There are so many boat rides you can experience here; in fact it is too much that once you're done, it will give you tons of body ache.

Boslon Island is very crowded, most of the visitors send their lunch time here. If you'll get a bigger boat like we did, you can have lunch your boat instead.

I got to say that this island made my experience really memorable, aside from the fact that I was dead tired after all the shenanigans we did, but it was all worth it.

Hiyor-hiyoran Island

Britania Group of Islands

Last stop was Hiyor-hiyoran island where there are pretty coconut trees on the side and you can take a nice Instagram post.

We went on swimming just near our boat before calling it a day.

We proceeded to Sibadan Fish Cage and spent our night there, then we went to Enchanter River the next day. For more places to visit in Surigao del Sur, you can check this post: Presenting Surigao del Sur: My land and My home
