What is something you are looking forward to do with your Steem Power in the future?

in #asksteemit7 years ago

Hey everyone!

Haven't done any #asksteemit posts in a long time. On Reddit the r/askreddit was one of my most favorite subreddits as the discussions were amazing and anyone in the world could take part in and share their experiences and knowledge about anything and everything and the users would upvote depending on quality.

It truly is amazing to now be on a platform where that same activity can be rewarded with actual value through votes and incentivize the growth of even more quality. We are still at the very early stages of the platform and it reminds me a lot of how Reddit was in the beginning when the userbase was smaller and most discussions revolved around Reddit itself and its development.

As you may have noticed there are many apps springing up to life lately such as @dtube, @dsound, @dlive and many more even though we haven't even implemented SMT's yet which will let anyone more easily incentivize and monetize their own platforms through them as well. There will literally be no limits to what you will be able to do with SMT's and curating just for content will probably become a fraction of what people will do with their voting power. This is also a reason why I think the current curation algorithm should remain as it is, even though vote selling and buying has been one of the first major effects from it I doubt it will be the last. I know many users don't appreciate that aspect of the platform and assosiate it with abuse but I like to compare it to the early days of Bitcoin, where the innovative blockchain technology was not yet clear to many and obviously was abused by shady people and businesses first.

The good will in the end outweigh the bad and people have started to finally realize the invention that is now blockchain and all the advantages that will bring us in the future.

So what are you looking forward to do with your voting power in the future, Steemians? What sort of services and functions do you expect to arise with SMT's and other?

Sort:

I was thinking about a project for free lancer graphic designer, where you can submit a prtfolio and other can hire you based on you reputation and how well was your previous work. All will work under a blockchain and rewards will be in SMT. The main idea is to let new designers get to have some jobs to earn some tokens and build a designers community to make all the market grow and have a place where its easy to contact with a person who's willing to do what you need and with other users backup :)

Hmmm, that sounds a helluva lot like crafty.work. You might want to check this project out. It's an ICO and I have no idea how trustworthy they are, ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ but it exists. Freelancers are rewarded with tokens and a blockchain-based reputation lookup system.

Never heard of it, I will totally check it out, and thanks for the tip. It sounds a lot like what I have in mind lol, maybe I could star working there :)

Crafty sounded really... meh, when I looked at them when I saw someone shilling it. There's already someone on steemit making a jobs board kind of thing, forgot the name of it.

Hmmm, there are also plenty of people on Steemit promoting Kryptonia. There's also jobs there for SuperiorCoin.

I saw the shilling you mentioned. @originalworks is/was actually hosting a contest for crafty's campaign.

If you remember the name of this thing you mention, please tell me! I'm interested in it.

I remember something about steemj, for jobs rewarded on Steam, but I never join and I don't know if it's still working. Im gonna look for what you told me on Steemit. Thanks for the advice mate

Im looking forward to use my steem power to help those who are really in need. My steem will mostly go to charity in underdeveloped countries and other poor and homeless people around my own community. After that I'm going to use my voting power to help the minnows so that they can contribute further. And finally all I want is to travel, I would like to travel all the places I have in mind and enjoy my life to the fullest. Thank you.

i love your response @fivefiveeleven, you didn't try to impress as some would love to.

well, for me, what i plan doing with my future voting power are;

i would love to get a big house for my mother-in-law. she is such a great and lovely woman, she was there for me when my folks didn't even consider me to be their own

Secondly, i would help potential steemians especially in community, i have started talking to lots of them especially those who couldn't help themselves in school. i have introduced steemit to ten people already and seven have joined already while the remaining three will jump on board by next week.

Thirdly, i have a goal to send 50 children to primary school whose parents couldn’t afford them good education
Fourthly, i will drill a bore hole in my home town so they can have access to good water supply which in turn will reduce malaria and other diseases

Hi @acidyo

I'll try to be as honest as a can, this is the truth and nothing but the truth, so help me God.
It's quite simple for me:

  1. I'll help this wonderful community grow: this am already doing with my 15SP delegated to me as a newbie.

  2. I'll help myself grow : This is the reason am acquiring steem power in the first place ,...am not doing it because i like numbers.

  3. I'll help the needy : this should be number 2... but then, how can i help people if i cannot help myself here. I believe when someone takes freely from steemit that person should also be willing to give freely. At this point nothing will be able to stop me from helping people that are truly in need.

It's such a simple yet not as common as an attitude that you could guess to find here. So praiseworthy. Godspeed for your journey, @mhizsophie !

Thank you for your kind words. I'll surely do my best.

slowly but surely :)

wow wow wow.............great question........................

Excellent! As @destrudo said, people don't admit most of the time that they're using Steemit for partly selfish reasons. While I want to make Steemit be a very special and pretty community, I also want to do it because it's my community in a certain sense. It's like wanting to clean your street because that way you're more satisfied at the sight, the health benefits and what it gives the community.

In a sense, helping others is also for "selfish" reasons, since you act to feel satisfaction by feeling like you helped others. This doesn't help explain why someone would sacrifice their well-being for others. Perhaps peace of mind is more satisfying than death by fatigue. Got a bit too philosophical here. Great points you make, a bit inspiring, even.

You make a lot of sense @cryptosharon ... Your philosophy is perfect.
Thank you :)

@mhizsophie, I want the power to design amazing experiences for myself and the people I love. Right after that, I have dreams about how to redesign the whole world. The more money I have, the more I can influence the causes I care most about: justice, equality and the sustainability of our planet.

wow! beautiful... You have a lot of wonderful plans @dhamtex
It's not going to be easy though!
Looking forward to this new world you have in mind
I wish you all the best ...

For me it will be charity. @surpassinggoogle is one of my role model and you are also one of my steemit role models. What you guys do with your steem power is basically what I will do with mine which is to help others grow. I will also use it to support ongoing steemit projects and will probably start up my own project as well. Of what benefit will steem power be to me if I don't use it to put a smioe on the faces of others who are below me?

curation curation curation...let's make the world a better place with our steem Powers.

Exactly. I think the only valid choice with SP is either use it for yourself, sell it or use it to promote the parts you love about your community. I don't have much SP right now, so even though I do keep voting on stuff I love, when it grows, my votes will help give some views to the greater creators. I don't think I'd use it to vote on myself, since by that time I'm sure I'll have followers with bigger votes than mine.

Hello, Acidyo. I kind of agree with your observation about bid bots. It's something a bit of a lamentable need for beginners who don't have any earnings and don't know how to push themselves out there. Sometimes they can't even afford bid bots and sometimes may see them as something negative. This leads to their great content being unseen. Many eventually leave Steemit thinking that this is a platform where good content is not rewarded.

My vision for the far future when my SP is worth more than $0.014 per vote is to help promote great content. I've seen that many people like to reward their commenters or the participants of their contests. I wish to do a job similar to @qurator, @dropahead and others by seeking great content, or delegating this task to others, to promote not content by those who belong to a certain community, or content by those who pay, but a variety of top quality works that would best represent this diverse community of creators.

I may sound like a hopeless dreamer, but I think this can be achieved and we can improve the trending section where the opposite can be seen sometimes: sometimes you look at the face of Steemit and see posts about drama, effortless posts and things that nobody really wants to see. These are pushed to the front by people with a lot of voting power. This is their freedom. I don't condemn them or call them evil. It's their right, and I wish that in the future, it will be my right to promote the best side of the blockchain.

Hey @acidyo! What I would do with my SP is help newbies in the vegan community. I want to be able to support groups that do something good for this planet, and not eating animal products is a very good thing =). I just created a discord channel called "Vegans of Steemit" in the hope to unite as many vegans as possible. There are already a whole bunch of members (newbies and also established bloggers), and I hope that we can help each other grow, maybe with a voting trail. Obviously more SP would help.

As for other SMT's, I'd expect to be able to buy services and goods with them. If I'm not mistaken that will be possible with appics

Honestly, I'm not an anarcho-capitalist idealist about Blockchain. I don't think it's going to usher in an anarchist utopia of consensus voluntaryism rainbows. And I'm kinda glad for that.

The reason I'm here is much more mundane: I like the idea of micro-payments for content creation that can maybe actually support people without advertising. I follow a number of active YouTube creators and the degree to which their fates are controlled by the slightest whim of a tweak in an advertising algorithm somewhere is truly frightening. Most of them would be completely wiped out without Patreon, which acts as a subsidy for YouTube's terribleness.

And YouTube is one of the best around in terms of actually giving content creators a financial cut. It's kinda sad. :-)

I want to be able to support the content creators I support in a simple, low-cost, low-friction way that cuts advertisers out of the equation entirely.

And hey, if I can make some money myself along the way with random blogs where I rant about things, I'll take it!

Helping newbies on the platform should be top priority. Make them shine in the darkness of the new section.
I also wish the steemit site becomes easier to navigate for newbies with time.

Hardforks are coming and probably a revamp or two. That's also why busy.org was created in part. There's a lot to do lol. This project is still starting and very raw. I want it to be the future already! I want to see its evolution.

I can't wait for SMT's and to see what spurs from it.

They will all be based off of steem correct kind of like bitshares is where they have a bunch of subtokens under them you buy with bitshares ?

As fro projects I kind of want to see something peer to peer but contract based so the loan has to be repaid that is going to be a tricky one though.

many of the people here who have been given powers and level and standards from which they can help anyone but they selfishly choose to not to help anyone or upvote and ignore even the good and real people who spend time reading the post and commenting and sharing.i am glad you are not like that and you are helping people.

if i get the voting power I'd obviously make a use of it and upvote those who spend time trying to earn here and are hard working and real. I'll help anyone who needs it and i won't keep it to myself. ofcourse it will help me grow but I'd want others to grow with me as well cause its a social media to earn and social means together. thanks

Sure. From people like you @acidyo, quite a lot of us have benefitted, via upvotes, interactions (with your followers) and a lot more.

And I believe with time, we too (newbies) would get to the level you are now.

I think it would be best to reciprocate such gesture to upcoming and incoming newbies.

Where leaders encourage younger ones. I believe with that, we would have a robust platform.
