I reckon you've nailed the bulk of the problem.
"What this country needs is a maverick that will stand up and shine a light on the truth of Assange's situation."
But you have shot yourself in the foot aiming at the barn door of solutions. Assange isn't the Great Leader we need. There is no Great Leader we need. What is wrong with Australia and every other polity on Earth is that individuals aren't undertaking their own salvation.
That's the only salvation there is.
The Great Leader is a myth, as the Midnight Oil frontman reveals. Roger Waters is just a guy, and for folks that follow his lead on this matter, does not lead them astray. But he's not omniscient, and won't solve all our problems. I wouldn't expect any man to be competent to superbly understand the full gamut of complex, technical issues that polities are faced with resolving.
Only we ourselves can do that, and each of us needs to solve their own problems. That's the problem in a nutshell: people aren't free individuals, but members of collectives that require leaders, and leaders profit themselves as a rule. That's why they do the work to become a leader: because it's good for them. Jesus, Ron Paul, Caitlin, and yourself are exceptions to that rule, but that makes you exceptions to the greater collective, and those intent on membership in the collective pick up on that.
The late E.O. Wilson was an extraordinary researcher, whose revelations concerning eusociality should be required reading for every revolutionary. We are no less subject to evolutionary forces on our behaviour than every other species, and his research is paradigm transcending for all political theories.
There are permutations of evolved behaviour that aren't well studied, but we can speculate that just like eddies form in streams, so have tendencies to form countercultures formed in behavioural instincts. When societies fail, those eddies should prove advantageous, and thus preferred genetically, although less so than main stream collectivists. There is little aneusocial instinctive behaviour remnant in our genes, a relic of our hybridization with H. neanderthalensis. People that lead themselves are uncommon as a result.
We all die, and Assange will die a martyr to freedom, apparently. His salvation is valuable, but he can't save us if we save him. I am confident he will benefit us immensely if we do, and we owe it him regardless, but that isn't salvation.
Only we can save us, and anyone that wants to know the truth can find it. No one is trapped by the enemedia into not knowing facts. They are intent on being part of the collective, and so deny facts. Research has shown that people receive a shot of dopamine when they deny facts to support their chosen ingroup, and this is an innate biological behaviour evolved over millenia because it was favored reproductively.
Them as can do.
Thanks!
